Intel Announces Mega Chip Factory in Ohio

That from time to time Intel has stepped on the accelerator in multiple facets It is something that, at this point, no longer admits discussion. We have seen it, in terms of its technological evolution, with the twelfth generation of Intel Core. With Alder Lake, the technology has gained muscle, and what we are learning about Raptor Lake is even more promising. It is true that AMD is not going to make it difficult for them, but precisely that guarantees us users that the next generations of both companies will be very interesting.

On the other hand, Intel it is also showing concern about the current chip shortage situation, and it is doing it in the best possible way: proposing solutions, although these may not always come out ahead. Just over two months ago, for example, we learned that the company’s plans to increase its production in China did not have the approval of the US administration.

This other action, however, will surely not only have that approval, but will surely be welcomed with open arms by the Biden administration. And it is that, as reported by the company itself, Intel will launch a new megafactory, with no less than two factories, in Ohio, United States. A plant whose construction will begin soon, and that Intel hopes to have operational at some point in 2025 (remember that these types of plants are terribly complex, so their construction takes a long time.

Intel Announces Mega Chip Factory in Ohio

The megafactory, in its first phase, will have a size of about 400 hectares and will have two production plants. However, it could be extended to twice the length, 800 hectares, and could house up to eight production plants. The investment for its start-up will be more than 20,000 million dollars, which can rise to 100,000 if the factory reaches the maximum possible size, and the company hopes that it will generate around 3,000 direct jobs once it is operational. .

If the most ambitious plan for this new facility is fulfilled, Intel will be able to boast of having the largest chip production factory in the world, although its full deployment could take around a decade, so we are talking about a medium-term plan. However, it is unlikely that the demand for chips will continue or decline. Quite the contrary, we can bet that we will see how it continues to increase in the future.

Thus, with this megaproject, Intel would not only be responding to the current shortage situation, but also anticipating this more than foreseeable increase in demand. And it is that today, there are many sectors that are being affected by shortages, a situation that, with actions of this type, Intel seems to want to avoid in the medium term.
