Intel ARC Graphics Windows Drivers: Versions and Features

It is important to have the drivers or drivers always well updated. They not only carry a performance optimization in games, they also correct certain errors or problems. Additionally, drivers often come with important (often unannounced) security patches. For these reasons, drivers should be updated when they are available.

Origin of Intel ARC graphics cards

For many years the integrated graphics (iGPU) in Intel processors have left much to be desired. These graphics were low power, allowing video and little else. But, for the last few years they have been working on developing their own graphics cards to compete with AMD and NVIDIA.

We can say that the start of the development of these graphics cards begins in November 2017. It was then that it became official that Raja Koduri, who had been behind the development of several AMD graphics architectures, signed for Intel for the development of gaming graphics. That was a big hit in the industry, as Koduri is considered the best in the field of graphics.

Koduri signed for Intel with the clear mission of develop graphics cards that match those of NVIDIA and AMD. To do this, Intel put at their disposal all the necessary resources and freedom of contract. His influence has been so great that he is currently one of the most powerful people in the company.

Development has taken a long time and Intel’s first ARC Alchemist graphics are far from the competition. Although of course, AMD and NVIDIA have many years of advantage and development.

Characteristics of these new gaming graphics

Intel graphics cards bring some adjustments, such as the development of the Vector Engine cores. This is the company’s name for conventional Execution Units. Each of these units processes up to 8 FP32 instructions simultaneously. This is possible thanks to a 256-bit SMID.

These graphics cards include the new ones Xe Matrix eXtensions (XMX Engine). Said XMX have quite a few similarities with the NVIDIA Tensor Cores. These cores are designed for Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

But also, inside we find the Render Slice which is made up of four Xe-Core blocks, each with 64 Vector Engine. Note that each Xe-Core includes 4 Ray Tracing Units, in addition to other elements.

At this point we can already see that we are not really talking about a simple GPU, but a chip made up of different elements.

These graphics cards offer support for real-time light ray tracing technology, also known as Ray Tracing. For this, specific kernels have been included for the computation of this complex task.

It is well known that Ray Tracing consumes an enormous amount of resources and generates a loss of performance. To compensate for this loss of performance, technology has been developed Intel XeSS. This technology would be the equivalent of NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR.
