Intel completes its line of Raptor Lake processors for desktop computers

Intel has announced the launch of the new 13th Generation Core processors for desktop computers, thus completing the Raptor Lake-S platform released last September. If those were the top of the range K series with an unlocked multiplier, the company is now focused on completing the series with 65 and 35 watt models and a focus on large consumption.

The Raptor Lake for laptops has been the biggest announcement that Intel has brought to CES 2023 and immediately we have seen a huge amount of new equipment under this platform from all its hardware partners. But it has not been the only thing and yesterday we also saw the new N series processors to motorize basic and cheap computers. A third important product group is the one we are going to review in this post.

Completing the Intel Core 13 Gen

Intel launched the first new-generation desktop processors in September, starting with the top-of-the-line ‘K’ series with unlocked multiplier and huge performance. But it is obvious that not all users need so much and the models Non-K Although they can also be used for games and content creation, they have a lower consumption and price.

Intel promises future and backward compatibility of these processors with the 600 and 700 series motherboardsas well as compatibility with memories DDR5 and DDR4. In addition, there are models with different consumptions (65 and 35 watts), as well as versions with and without integrated graphics. The idea is to increase the flexibility of use of the platform and complete the top of the range already on the market. Of course, they have the latest Intel technologies and use the hybrid architecture that mixes high-performance ‘P’ cores with the so-called efficient ‘E’ ones for less demanding tasks.

Despite not having the multiplier unlocked, they are not without performance. And we see the sample in the fastest of those presented, the Core i9-13900 with 24 cores (8 of them high-performance) and 32 native processing threads, and frequencies that go up to 5.6 GHz. It has an integrated Intel UHD 770 graphics, while memory support includes DDR4 at 3200 and DDR5 up to 5600 MHz with a capacity of up to 128 Gbytes.

Intel has increased the L2 cache to 2 MB per P core and 4 MB per E core cluster, for an L3 cache that on this model totals 36 Mbytes. You can see all the models and characteristics in the following table. Indicate that the variants ‘F’ are those that do not include integrated graphics.

Intel has produced another half dozen variants that labeled as “T”are those that reduce energy consumption to a TDP of only 35 watts. They reduce some benefits over the previous equivalents, but they will be useful in equipment that seeks to reduce consumption.

Intel markets the new Intel Core 13th Gen (Non-K) under the brands Core i9, Core i7 and Core i5. If you’re wondering where the Core i3s are, you should know that they’ve been reserved for the entry-level N-series, which has replaced the earlier Pentiums and Celerons. Finally, say that Intel will include a stock fan similar to the 65 W Alder Lake in the retail purchase of these processors that completes the Raptor Lake platform for desktop computers.
