Intel could establish a semiconductor factory in Germany

Intel has been thinking for some time about where to locate its next semiconductor factory in Europe, a decision that is obviously complicated and that requires careful study by the chip giant. Nothing is decided yetbut some names of relevant countries within the union had already sounded strongly.

Today, however, new information has emerged suggesting that the fate of that new Intel factory would be Magdeburg, a German city located in the Elbe river area, and which has been undergoing a modernization process for some time. In this sense, the construction of a semiconductor factory could be very positive for the city, there is no doubt about that.

The source of the news, a German media, assures that the official announcement, with the confirmation of this information, will happen sometime next weekalthough it is not clear what specific objectives this factory will have, that is, what type of semiconductors it will produce and under which nodes, although it would be normal for Intel to give priority to its most advanced processes.

From what we have been able to read, it seems that Magdeburg was not the only city that Intel considered to establish a new factory in Germany. One of those that was also on the “possible” list was Dresdenand it is also understandable, since it is about the place where the Fraunhofer Institute for Organic Electronics, Plasma and Electron Beam Technology is located.

On the other hand, it must be taken into account that Dresden also has twice the population than Magdeburg. This detail makes Intel’s decision to opt for the second one curious, to say the least, especially since the latter does not have any particularity that makes it, really, a better option than Dresden, so right now I cannot finish understanding why why would the chip giant choose her.

Perhaps your decision is motivated by supply issues or by specific agreements with the local administrationbut right now everything we say is pure speculation, so we can only wait for the official announcement, which will probably be accompanied by a small explanation with the reasons that have led Intel to bet on said city.
