Intel for cryptocurrencies: Bonanza Mine, its mining hardware

According to the RAE in its third definition of Bonanza is “In overseas mines, abundance of ore.” The name by Intel for its ASIC intended for mining Bitcoins seems quite well chosen. Bonanza is a term that is deeply rooted in mining tradition, and now also in crypto-mining thanks to Intel with its new “Bonanza Mine”.

ASICs are devices developed and focused on a specific and unique task. In the world of cryptocurrencies they are very common and exist to carry out the work of mining specific cryptocurrencies. Its hardware is very specific and optimized for generate a higher hashrate to which a processor or a GPU can give and for the same consumption. You can get the best bitmain antminer going way more efficiently than using a GPU.

Intel ‘Bonanza Mine’, efficient mining?

While in countries such as Kosovo, cryptocurrency mining is prohibited due to lack of electricity in the country, Intel has presented its new highly energy efficient and ultra low voltage ASIC “Bonanza Mine”.

Last month, Intel VP and General Director of Graphics Raja Koduri -ex-AMD- told the official publication of Intel Gaming.

“… I believe that the blockchain is a transaction that is executed much more efficiently that burning hardware cycles. This is something we are working on…”

Without a doubt, Intel does not want to let the moment pass and takes advantage of a very good opportunity with the lack of stock of graphics and its disproportionate increase in price. It is because of that Intel has prepared its own ASIC “Bonanza Mine” to gain a foothold in the cryptocurrency sector, so much so, that one of its first clients will be GRIID, an American startup dedicated to Bitcoin cryptomining that it has reached an agreement with the blue giant so that they supply it with “Bonanza Mine” ASICs and thus expand its mining equipment. The American startup is a recognized miner in the sector, it says on its own website that it seeks carbon-free and low-cost energy to build, manage and operate its growing portfolio of Bitcoin mining facilities.

Mining yes, but not with my graphs

Intel has been talking about graphics for many years and already at the time Raja Koduri himself declared that with his ARC graphics cards they have the desire that these reach the general public, the players and not the miners or end up in a warehouse on a farm.

Obviously and after knowing the recent presentation of Intel Bonanza Mine, it seems a clear option of what they want to offer to the latter to meet their needs without having to go to the GPUs for gamers and disrupt the market.

In addition, with the supposed low energy and voltage requirement that Intel ASICs will require, we want to think that it is their eco-friendly gesture in the face of the devastating environmental impact caused by uncontrolled cryptocurrency mining.
