Intel makes the planned obsolescence of its processors more extreme

Something that Intel has always been criticized for is its policy of launching processors and motherboards. Specifically, Intel wants you to buy a new motherboard with each new generation of processors, even if you don’t have to. The last move is discontinue Intel Z690 and B660 chipsetintended for Alder Lake processors.

We have to highlight that the first Intel Alder Lake processors, also known as 12th Generation, were launched on November 4, 2021. We talk that these processors have only been on the market for 15 months (more or less). But, the company is already working on stopping offering this product to users in favor of its latest releases.

Intel and the unreal expiration date of its products

AMD has very good things, like showing that they can release a quality product that can be used for a long time. The company has maintained the AM4 socket for 5 years, which allows any AMD Ryzen with this socket to theoretically be installed on any motherboard. The biggest problem they have had is the size of the BIOS to ensure compatibility.

Against this policy is Intel, which for years made its chipsets artificially only work for a family of processors, despite sharing a socket. Recently, they have changed this policy and one chipset supports two families of processors. Well, really a socket, since every two CPU generations, they change the socket and thus avoid obnoxious comparisons.

According to the latest information that appeared, Intel has decided to load the chipset Z690 and B660, intended for 12th Generation processors. We have to say that the Z690 launched into the fourth quarter of 2021, along with early Alder Lake processors. He B660 would arrive in the first quarter of 2022, coinciding with the launch of the other Alder Lake processors. Apparently the H670 and H610 chipset will continue to be produced and marketed.

And indeed, this is an average of pressure made motherboard manufacturers and final buyers. The company wants to force motherboard manufacturers to focus on 13th Generation processors. Also look for the user purchase new productsquite more expensive than the previous generation and without substantial improvements.

A processor market without innovation and meaningless

Really, if one stops to think, is this speed of “upgrading” processors really necessary? We have reached a surreal point in the processor market. If you think about it, what user needs a processor with more than 4 cores and 8 threads?

For 80-90% of users who are fond of video games, a 4-core or 6-core processor is enough. Acquiring a processor with more cores, paying an extra cost, does not make the slightest sense. Really, processors with 8 cores, 12 cores, 16 cores or more, do not make sense at a general level.

Intel and AMD have entered into an absurd core war that does absolutely nothing. What’s more, we know very well that the frequency of the processor is more important for gaming than the number of cores.

True, there is the factor that the games are not optimized and require more hardware to do the same. Undoubtedly the best example is the game Crysis, by CryTek, released in 2007. Anyone who has played it will see that it has brutal graphics and the game is 15 years old. At the time it was demanding, but if they told you that it was launched 1 year ago, you could easily believe it.

That said, selling the donkey of the nuclei to move games without optimizing and that, in many cases, are in the beta phase of development and that are launched as if they were finished.
