Intel Sapphire Rapids-SP Xeon model list and specifications

A huge leak has left us all the details of the Intel Sapphire Rapids-SP Xeon, Intel’s next generation of high-performance processors for the professional sector, which in fact we have already talked about on more than one occasion. We already knew such important things as that he was going to adopt a modular design based on chiplet blocks, that it will be available in versions with integrated HBM2E memory and that they would be manufactured in the Intel 7 node (10nm), but we did not have specific details about the models that the chip giant was going to launch.

As we have said, this has changed thanks to an impressive leak that leaves practically nothing to the imagination. Altogether there will be two great versions as we have said, and these will be divided as follows:

  • Intel Sapphire Rapids-SP Xeon without HBM2E memory, whose footprint will be 4,446 square mm.
  • Intel Sapphire Rapids-SP Xeon with HBM2E memory, which will have a footprint of 5,700 square mm.

These versions will be divided in turn into different levels of processors, which will have different consumption and power levels, of course. Let’s see it in detail:

  • Intel Sapphire Rapids-SP Xeon Bronze: the most affordable and the least powerful. They will have a TDP of up to 125 watts.
  • Intel Sapphire Rapids-SP Xeon Silver: a step above the previous ones, with a TDP that will go from 145 to 165 watts.
  • Intel Sapphire Rapids-SP Xeon Gold: These models will be very powerful, and will have a TDP that will go from 150 to 270 watts.
  • Intel Sapphire Rapids-SP Xeon Platinum: the most powerful, and those that will have the highest TDPs, since they will range between 250 and 350 watts.

Since it will make many variants within this new generation of processors, the list of leaked models is simply huge, but we can summarize it Focusing on your key specifications, something that in the end is what is important, and much more useful to situate ourselves and better understand each of these levels.

Level Bronze would consist of a single chip of 8 cores and 16 threads which would have quite low working frequencies, since it will work at 1.9GHz with all nuclei active. The models Silver will have configurations between 10 cores and 20 threads and 20 cores and 40 threads.

On the other hand, the models Gold They will have very varied configurations, so much so that they will go from 8 cores and 16 threads to 44 cores and 88 threads. The particularity of this range compared to the Bronze and Silver with the same core and thread configurations is that they will work at much higher frequencies. So, for example, the 8-core, 16-thread Intel Sapphire Rapids-SP Xeon Gold will run at a maximum of 4.1 GHz, more than double the speed of the Bronze model.

At the top are the Platinum models, which will be made up of configurations of between 16 cores and 32 threads and 60 cores and 120 threads. The launch of Intel’s new Xeon processors is expected to take place in 2023 due to a recent delay that affected the production capacity of said chips.
