Intel will lower the price of Core Gen12 processors by 20%

Earlier this year Intel applied an upward adjustment to some Core Gen12 desktop processors (Alder Lake-S), a move that had minimal impact because the price increase was a recommendation that few retailers followedand because in the end most of the users focused their interest on the new Core Gen13, something understandable considering the performance improvement of the latter and their adjusted price compared to the previous generation.

According to sources within the Taiwan distribution chain, consulted by the always reliable DigiTimes, the chip giant is preparing a significant price reduction that will affect all Intel Core Gen12, and that will mean a 20% drop. This move makes sense for three big reasons:

  1. The competition represented by the Ryzen 7000 non-X series, which offer a very interesting price-performance ratio.
  2. The weight that the Ryzen 5000 continue to have, because they maintain good performance, have a very contained price and are integrated into a mature and affordable platform.
  3. Better differentiate the Intel Core Gen12 from the Core Gen13, give both their own space and improve sales with a more attractive price and better tuned. It is clear that the bad quarterly results that Intel has registered would also have influenced this decision.

This is how the prices of the Intel Core Gen12 would be after that 20% reduction

In the attached image we can see an estimate of how the prices of the Intel Core Gen12 would be if that 20% drop is confirmed. The prices are given in dollars, but keep in mind that based on Intel recommended levels, not actual prices that those processors have at major retailers.

possible new prices of Intel Core Gen 12 CPUs

To better illustrate the situation, I want to share with you how the prices of Intel Core Gen12 processors would be in Spain if it were applied, directly on the real price that they have in one of the best-known retailers in our country, that 20% discount:

  • Intel Core i9-12900K: it would drop from 531.95 euros to 425.56 euros.
  • Intel Core i7-12700K: it would go from 384 euros to 307.20 euros.
  • Intel Core i5-12600K: its current price is 311.50 euros, and it would cost 248.85 euros.
  • Intel Core i5-12400F: it costs 179.99 euros, and with the 20% discount it would be 144 euros.
  • Intel Core i3-12100F: it is priced at 109.99 euros, and it would cost 88 euros.

As we can appreciate, the new prices would be very attractive and they would place Intel’s Core Gen12 in a fantastic position in relation to price-performance. With that Core i5-12400F we could build a powerful gaming computer at a very low cost, and the Core i3-12100F would directly become the best processor on the market within its price range.

I think that, if this information is fulfilled and applied as we have seen in this article, could motivate many users to renew their equipment, and will help the chip giant clear out the stock of its Core Gen12 CPUs. It should also have a positive impact on its next quarterly results if it manages to give enough of a boost to sales.
