Despite the current dominance of browsers such as Google Chrome, Edge or Firefox, there was a time when the visible head of the sector was internet explorer. With everything and with it, that time has passed and now we are talking about software that has practically disappeared.
In fact, over the past year, Microsoft has already announced the withdrawal of this web browser, specifically internet explorer 11for most versions of the Windows 10 system. We tell you all this because just a few hours ago the Redmond firm published that support for this program will definitely end on June 15 of this year.
This is a message that as a reminder has appeared on a website where the firm informs users and administrators about the next end of this software. At this point it goes without saying that, as has been specified so many times, the future of Internet Explorer in Windows goes through Microsoft Edge. In fact, this newer browser includes an IE Mode that provides legacy browser support as part of its features.
Among other things and because of this, the desktop application of the old program will be removed on next June 15, 2022. This means that the desktop app will no longer receive support and then it will redirect to Edge if a user tries to access it. Also, something that should be taken into consideration for those who still use it, is that the program will not start after its removal.
Edge will be loaded instead, but Internet Explorer files will not be removed from computers after support ends, as they are required for IE Mode.
Microsoft bets on Edge and removes Internet Explorer from Windows
In the same way and from that moment that we mentioned to you, Edge will be the only browser that Microsoft will offer us. It is true that there are still end users and companies that for certain reasons need Internet Explorer. That is why the firm takes care of the aforementioned Legacy Mode. in this way those who require its mandatory use can use it to load Internet Explorer-specific content in Edge.
Keep in mind that the most current version is based on Chromium, so it is not compatible with the technologies of the program of yesteryear. But with everything and with it, the commented mode guarantees that the specific content of this application can continue to be loaded on the PC. Most home users may not need the IE modebut companies do, since certain applications and services have been created exclusively for Internet Explorer.
Of course, we must also know that there are certain unaffected operating system versions and editions for withdrawal. Here is included Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, in addition to the Server LTSC and SAC editions of Windows 10. On the other hand, if we focus on Windows 11, Edge is already the default browser and Microsoft wants to extend and strengthen its use. To do this, it reminds us that it offers better web compatibility as it is based on Chromium. In turn, this browser also offers better security and protection when compared to Internet Explorer.
