iOS 17 will translate laundry labels

A few weeks ago, at the opening of WWDC 2023, Apple showed us some of the new features of iOS 17, which does not aim to be a huge renovation, but an update with some interesting features. And in addition, we also learned which terminals can be updated to this new version that will be published, except for a huge surprise, in mid-September, a few days after the keynote presentation of the future iPhone 15.

As a general rule, in these presentations they usually advance the most important functions and news that will come with the new version of the operating system, in this case of iOS 17. However, we have already seen on other occasions that Apple reserves some surprise, perhaps for marketing or perhaps because they wait for these news to be more mature before making them see the light. Thus, we cannot really close the list of news of a new version of the OS until the last of its own updates is published.

It also happens, on many occasions, that some functions are not announced, or that in the best of cases they have a certain role in minor events, or that a brief press release is published that reports on them. This is perfectly understandable, of course, we must not forget that the time for the presentations is limited and that, consequently, it is necessary to adjust to it by making a selection of the most important. Although, on occasions like the one at hand, other “minor” novelties may end up being much more useful in our day to day.

iOS 17 will translate laundry labels

Such is the case of what we can read in Übergizmo, and it is that iOS 17 will automatically “translate” the washing symbols of the clothing label. Yes, that set of images that only a few people understand, but that common mortals force us to carry out a new search for their meaning every time we go to wash a piece for the first time, and in some cases also with those that we use in a very timely manner.

I know that, at first glance, this novelty may seem like something minor, but as I have said on previous occasions, I really think that we are talking about advances that deserve to be extensively reviewed, since they have the potential to make things easier for us. For example, and speaking of iOS 17, the customization of the elements that are displayed on the screen for each contact, and which played a leading role in the presentation, seems like a fun proposal to me and one that I will surely take advantage of. But, and in this I am sure that I am not the only one, the translation of the washing labels It seems to me something much more useful and remarkable.

So much so that, in truth, I think that this type of small but very practical novelty should take on much more prominence, and not only in terms of communication about them, but also how Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc., should focus on developing more of these functions that, in the end, are the ones that can end up making a difference for the user.
