iPad Air 5: A15 Bionic, 5G and improved camera… in spring?

The current version of the iPad Air, 4, was released in 2020, more specifically on September 15, although their pre-sale did not begin until a little over a month after said announcement, in mid-October. In other words, when we make the jump from winter to spring in the northern hemisphere, this version will be about to turn a year and a half. It is not a long time, actually, because we are not talking about a device with which Apple has accustomed us to annual renewals, as is the case with the iPhone.

It seems, however, that this generation will not reach the age of two, since rumors are spreading that point to the iPad Air 5 will be presented next spring, so it may be that the 4 reaches a year and a half by the hair, depending on at what time of that season the relief occurs, as we can read in Mac Otakara, which had obtained said information from a “reliable source”, according to the media.

According to it, the iPad Air 5 will maintain the same design as its predecessor. This means that it will keep its small bezels, but it will still not have Face ID. It is expected to mount a power button on the side and Touch ID is integrated into it. Keeping the same design and giving up, at least for now, the visual recognition of the user, would allow Apple to save costs, which should translate into the price of the iPad Air 5 is continuous with respect to that of the 4, instead of experiencing a rise.

iPad Air 5: A15 Bionic, 5G and improved camera... in spring?

As for its novelties, the two most notable so far are those related to its SoC and cellular connectivity. At the first of these points, we find that The iPad Air 5 could mount the Apple A15 Bionic chip, that is, the same one used by the iPhone 13, thus remaining at the peak of performance, in this sense, as the 4 already did at the time of its launch, by using the Apple A14 Bionic, which is the SoC that we find in the iPhone 12.

And if we talk about connectivity, the great novelty is undoubtedly that The WiFi + cellular version of the iPad Air 5 would make the expected jump from 4G to 5G, thus adapting to the already widespread demand for devices to be compatible with this standard, which is slowly becoming popular. And it is that, let’s be frank, we are talking about a device whose most basic version (iPad Air 4 WiFi + cellular with 64 gigabytes) has a price of 789.00 euros. It would be hard to justify on a tablet at that price that it didn’t have 5G.

On the other hand, the leak also points to front camera improvements, which in its current version has a resolution of seven megapixels, and that with the iPad Air 5 it would make the leap with a wide-angle camera with 12 megapixel resolution with Center Stage support. However, no changes are expected in the rear camera, which would remain the 12 megapixel wide angle present in the current generation.
