iPad Pro 2022, Apple M2 and next-generation connectivity

Along with the new 2022 iPads, Apple has also presented this afternoon the new iPad Pro 10 and 12.9 2022, the real top of the range not only of the Cupertino tablets offer, but probably of the entire market. And it has done so by renewing a commitment that already began with the previous generation, presented in April 2021: making it the main rival for the different MacBook models, with which it is equated in technical specifications.

We reach, therefore, the fourth generation of the 11-inch iPad Pro, and the sixth of the 12.9-inch model, as we already told you yesterday, and whose launch we knew was already close since the accidental leak by Logitech a few weeks ago. And we do it by seeing, again, how Apple adds only the best of the best from its catalogalthough that means, also in this case, a certain increase in prices, which is especially appreciated in the higher-performance models.

Unlike what happened in the generational jump of the iPad, in the new iPad Pro there have been no aesthetic changes, all the “chicha” is inside, and It begins without a doubt with its SoC, an Apple M2, the integrated one that was released at the gates of last summer, and that debuted in the “guts” of this year’s MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models. Thus, it was more than predictable, and it makes perfect sense, that the next leap in this regard would be given by the iPad Pro. Moreover, personally, I would have seen it more logical that this debut occurred with the launch of the SoC, and that it was the iPad Air the one who made the jump afterwards. But hey, Apple does not usually stitch without thread, so surely this time there was no lack of reasons for it.

Thus, as I said, the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2022 are built around this Apple M2, which integrates an 8-core CPU (4 performance and 4 efficiency), a 10-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. nuclei, and that is accompanied according to the version of 8 or 16 gigabytes of unified memory, depending on modelsand with capabilities of 128, 256, and 512 gigabytes (in these cases it has 8 gigabytes of RAM), and 1 and 2 terabytesin which case we will find the 16 megabytes of unified memory.

Another important improvement is found in the connectivity section, with WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 in all models, to which is added the 5G cellular connectivity compatible with sub-6 GHz and mmWave4 networks, for virtually global coverage. According to Apple, in this way, we can reach download speeds of up to 2.4 Gb / s.

There are hardly any differences between the 11-inch iPad Pro and the 12.9-inch model (besides, of course, its dimensions and its price), and without a doubt the most notable is found on its screen. In the model of 11 inches we will find an IPS Liquid Retina ProMotion panel that provides a resolution of 2,388 x 1,668 dotswith a density of 264 dots per inch, a refresh rate of 120 hertz and 600 nits of brightness.

And this is the point where the iPad Pro 12.9 of 2022 sticks out his chest, because in this case we find a panel Mini LED with IPS Liquid Retina XDR ProMotion technology with a resolution of 2,732 for 2,048 points at a density of 264 dots per inch and up to 120 hertz refresh rate. Thanks to its 2D backlight system with 2,596 FALD zones, it is capable of providing a brightness in SDR mode up to 600 nitswhich in XDR mode scale up to 1,000 nits full screen, 1,600 nits peakand a 1,000,000:1 contrast. In addition, thanks to the design and the materials used in its design and its specific treatments, it has a reflectivity of only 1.8%.

The other difference is found in the batteries of the two models, although not in their autonomy. The iPad Pro 11 has a 28.65 watt hour battery, which the 12.9-inch model grows to 40.88 watt hours. However, In both cases, Apple indicates a range of up to 10 hours of use.either. And it is that, even with the greater efficiency of MiniLED panels compared to conventional IPS, its larger size justifies a higher consumption in the larger model.

On its back, we will find a double camera, composed of a 12 megapixel wide angle with a number ƒ/1.8 and a 10 megapixel ultra wide angle, with a maximum aperture of ƒ/2.4 and a field of view of 125°. It integrates optical zoom out x2 and digital up to x5, is compatible with Smart HDR 4 and has autofocus and image stabilization. Regarding the front, we find a camera TrueDepth with an ultra wide angle of 12 megapixels, number ƒ / 2.4 and field of view of 122º, also with Intelligent HDR 4.
