iPhone 12: problems with the speaker on calls?

Yes, surely more than one person, especially the youngest, will be surprised to learn that the iPhone 12 (and any other smartphone, really) can be used to make phone calls. And it is that, in reality, although smartphones emerged as an evolution of mobile phones that we already used on a massive scale for more than a decade before, in reality what they have done is change the way in which we communicate, relegating the phone calls to a somewhat lagging position on many users’ preference lists.

Be that as it may, and although there are even those who advocate removing the Phone from the iPhone, since with part I they already have more than enough, the iPhone 12 is still a phone and, therefore, there are people who use it to talk … yes, by phone (and yes, I am among them, although I do not deny that instant messaging has reduced my usual volume of calls more than substantially). And if it is also your case and you have that mobile, you may have had some trouble doing it.

In response to this, Apple has launched a special service program aimed at, they claim, «a very small percentage of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices may experience sound issues due to a component that could fail in the receiver module«. The affected iPhones were manufactured between October 2020 (date on which this generation was presented) and April 2021. However, given the impossibility of determining on our part on which date our device was manufactured, if we have this problem we will have to resort to Apple.

iPhone 12: problems with the speaker on calls?

This problem It does not affect, as you may have already deduced in the previous paragraph, iPhone 12 Mini or iPhone 12 Pro MaxTherefore, if a user has a similar problem, it will not be due (at least in principle) to the same cause and, consequently, they will not be able to benefit from this service program, which involves the cost-free repair of the breakdown. The validity of the same extends up to 24 months from the acquisition of the terminal and, for users who have acquired it in any country of the European Union, the repair will also be possible in other countries of the union.

An important detail, yes, is that the repair of the affected terminals is subject, as always in Apple repairs, to that the device does not have other problems that also need to be repaired. That is, if we send an iPhone 12 that suffers from this problem and, in addition, has a broken screen or a dent, Apple will put as a condition sine qua non the repair of the same (and this is not free, of course) to carry out the repair.

This is, of course, one of the reasons the newly announced self-repair program is great news. That users can choose if they want to repair only a specific element of their devices, without being forced to also solve the rest of the problems, it is an option that until now has not been available.
