Is it a good idea to disable the Trash in Windows?

The recycle bin works as a security mechanism that will allow us to recover any file or folder that we have previously deleted. Perhaps, we do not give it all the value it has, because generally we will only miss it when we really need it and do not have it.

Advantages of keeping the Recycle Bin

The Windows Trash works as a virtual trash can where all the files and folders that we are eliminating accumulate. To do this, the Microsoft operating system uses 10% of the available space to disk to temporarily save files. Thus, while these remain in it, we will have the opportunity to examine them and restore them again.

We also have the Trash does not consume disk space, so deactivating it will not solve any problem related to space. It also does not cause any inconvenience and allows us to have stored all those files that we will not currently need, but perhaps we could use in the future. As soon as we are sure that all its content is expendable, we can empty it to regain all its available space. With it we make sure that we will never lose an important file that we have been able to delete by mistake.

Main disadvantages of the Trash

Despite the good use that we can make of the Windows Trash, the truth is that there may be users who are not attracted to it. And is that its main drawback is that you have to delete the same file twice so that it is completely erased from our hard drive. Also, do not forget that all the unnecessary files that are in it are not officially deleted so they keep taking up space in the system. A space that can be valuable if our hard drive is not large or we tend to always have it quite full.

It should also be noted that the Windows Trash has some limitations. In addition to having a limited amount of space, we must count on the fact that data deleted from removable media such as a pendrive or memory card cannot be restored from it, since it was designed to retain data that is deleted only from the internal hard drive . In the same way, you cannot restore deleted data from network drives.

When is it advisable to do without it?

In general, keeping the Windows Trash active is a good decision as the benefits of this outweigh its drawbacks. Just knowing that an error will not prevent us from directly deleting an important file makes it worthwhile to keep it activated. Just in case we are too lazy to accumulate unnecessary files and have to delete them twice to get rid of them, you can make us choose to deactivate it.
