Is that why your games are lagging?

Electronic Arts has shown a few hours ago some images of what we can expect from the future F1 2023, the new installment of the most important racing simulator on the planet and that it arrives at the stores every year punctually with a delay, so that, again, it will appear again when we have been in competition for almost four months. Why does this happen edition after edition and they don’t copy the formula FIFA either NBA 2K?

They are different sports

It is a recurring thing that, when a new Formula 1 game arrives, users cry out against the developer because They believe that there is some negligence or bad planning in the implementation of each delivery. What’s more, as they always arrive late – this year on June 16 – they think that this ends up affecting the next installment and so on. But we can already assure you that Codemasters (now within Electronic Arts) would have been more excited than to be able to have their game in the same month of March, on the dates on which the competition begins.

You have to say yes F1 23 –and before all the other installments– do not arrive for that beginning of the season the reasons are not to be found in the development study but rather in the FIA or the company that manages the entire circus. If it was the intention of the International Automobile Federation that the game hit the shelves as soon as the first grand prix began, it would have already forced the developer to do so under threat of withdrawal of rights. And that hasn’t happened yet.

Yeah F1 2023 hits the stores so late again it’s because Formula 1 is not a sport comparable to football or basketball, which are predictable in their development and only change the shirts and players that make up the squads. In games like F1 23 there is much more behind it, such as the very design of the single-seaters, their behavior, in addition to all the circus of brands, sponsors and other emblems that are part of the circus both in the teams and on the World Cup tracks themselves.

What do we do with industrial properties?

Another differentiating element of Formula 1 is all the work that is generated and that produces a huge amount of industrial properties that have enormous financial value and cannot be happily shared with a game studio, no matter how much they hold the competition rights. With the training sessions shortened and the secrecy that moves around the smallest piece of the car, expecting a study to have all the plans for the cars of all the teams by December of each year is like asking for pears from the elm tree.

Electronic Arts can only work (and forced marches) when the cars are technically closed, the confirmed sponsors and each sticker already installed on the car and that usually happens (almost) when the first round of the 2023 season begins to roll in Bahrain. To do it before would be to require a team to show its valuable cards to a third party without know how you will use them, especially when we are talking about a material that always moves in the field of the most absolute and strict confidentiality.

It is for all of the above that it will be difficult for us to ever see an F1 game in stores to welcome the season, in March. If so, it would be an adapted version of the previous year and at the expense of a update gigantic after the first weeks of competition. But if something like this happened, we are sure that the same ones who complain about its current delay would also do so because they did not have the most realistic version of that World Cup in their hands as soon as the season began. Or do you think not?
