Is there a new Mac mini coming out this year?

We remember that the last Mac mini was launched at the end of 2020, being one of the first to incorporate ARM processors such as the M1. Knowing that the MacBook Pro, which came out at the same time with the same chip, was already renewed last year and that the MacBook Air too, it is not unreasonable to think that the Mac mini could be one of the following. Although perhaps not in the way we think.

Mac mini with M2 or… Mac mini Pro?

Really there are no clear indications that show that the Mac mini is going to be one of the Macs that are renewed this year, except for the fact already mentioned that it would be 2 years without renewals and being the only exception. However, it does not mean that in the past there have not been rumors regarding what this team will be like.

If Apple decides not to risk it too much, it could be a very simple renovation: M2 chip and running. Obviously the simple change of the processor is already an important advance, since the evolution of these Apple Silicon seems increasingly interesting. However, in this case it would not represent any other change at the design level nor would it give it a power with which to match the M1 Pro and M1 Max. What is expected is that, at least, it has a base 512 GB and can expand its maximum capacity.

However, the possibility that seems the most curious is at the same time one of the most rumored in recent months, especially by leakers like John Prosser: a hybrid between Mac mini and Mac Pro that, according to the words of this leaker, it would be about the same size as 3 or 4 current Mac minis stacked on top of each other. At the processor level, although it was not specified, it is understood that it would be equipped with the M1 Pro / M1 Max.

Now, we do not know if this hypothetical hybrid would be a renewed version of the Mac mini or if it would be complementary and would coexist together in the ecosystem. Be that as it may, we will have to wait to confirm it, since we have no reliable information about it.

The Macs that do seem safe this 2022

If the mentioned Mac mini is still unknown, just the opposite happens with two other computers from the company. On one hand the MacBook Air, which would come equipped with an M2 chip and a much-needed redesign that would be inspired by both the well-known 24-inch iMac and the 2021 MacBook Pro.

On the other hand, the large iMac, who is not known if he will bear the surname ‘Pro’ or not, is another of those who are almost taken for granted. This would replace the current 27-inch iMac with Intel chips to be completely redesigned with a miniLED panel, M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, as well as other notable changes at the hardware level that equate it with the latest MacBook Pro.

The mac pro, another of those that continues to mount Intel chips, remains up in the air. We do not know if the company is already able to bet on its own chips in its most powerful computer. In case you have that idea and despite how powerful the M1 Pro and M1 Max are, the Californians should integrate an even better and top-of-the-range chip with which to cover the niche of more advanced users.

Of small iMac and the macbook pro not much is known. In fact, it is possible that this year they will not see their renewal, especially in the case of the MacBook Pro, since it seems complicated that with all the development branches that they have open, they will be able to have chips such as the M2 Pro and M2 Max ready.
