Is your Gmail inbox a mess? In order with this hidden function

Whether we use Gmail for study, work, or primary email, as the weeks and months go by, your inbox can become a real chaos where it is impossible to find anything, despite the excellent performance of the search manager integrated in Gmail. Finding all the messages from a classmate, our teacher or co-worker, the newsletters to which we are subscribed or simply the emails from relatives is very simple in Google thanks to the labels.

Tags in Google like directories on a computer. When creating a label, just after the inbox, folders with the same name are created, folders where we can manually move all the messages that we receive and that match the name of the label. But we can also create rules so that Google automatically takes care of adding the corresponding tag. In this way, without doing anything, each new email we receive will be automatically labeled and will be available within that folder.

Although the operation of the folders is similar, visually speaking, to the directories, the emails are still available in the inbox unless we archive them. If we archive them, once tagged, they will only be available within the corresponding tag / folder. If we want to start putting order in our Gmail account creating labelswe must perform the following steps.

Create labels in Gmail

Once we have accessed our Gmail account, in the left column, there is the Labels category (below this are all the labels that we have created or are going to create), along with a “+” sign to its right . To create a label, click on the sign and enter the name of the label that we are going to create.

The new label we have created will be displayed in the column tags. Once we have created the label, we can create a rule so that all emails that meet a certain condition automatically receive the name of this label. If, in addition, we want them to disappear from our inbox, in the rule we can establish that they are automatically archived. To create a rule in Gmail, we must access the Gmail configuration options and click on the tab Filters and blocked addresses.

But, if the number of emails is not so high and we want sort them manually in different general labels, so as not to create endless labels, we can carry out this process automatically. To add a label to a certain email, the first thing we must do is click on it to display the full message. Next, we click on the label icon to show all the labels. We scroll through the labels or enter the name of the label with which we want to mark this email and select it.

From this moment on, the mail is in the inbox with the label SoftZone. If we access the name of the label from the left column, all the emails that include this same label. If we have made a mistake and want to delete a label, we just have to open the message in question and click on the x that is shown to the right of the label.
