In fact, there is a fact that makes it even more curious and that is that, as you already know, EVGA decided to abandon the graphics card market a few months ago and, precisely, it was the EVGA team of overclockers and using graphics from the brand Who has broken this record?
The RTX 3090 Ti, the most powerful graphics card (in SLI)
In this case, it has been the overclocker “CENS” who has obtained the new performance world record, and has been using two RTX 3090Ti in SLI… many of you will wonder how it is possible that the performance record (in this case in the Port Royal benchmark of the 3DMark suite) has been obtained with a last generation graphics card, if it is assumed that the new generation ones are more powerful… the answer is simple: the RTX 40 Series does not support SLI.
As you can see in the screenshot above, CENS has managed to obtain 36,370 points in 3DMark Port Royal using two RTX 3090 Ti in SLI with manual overclock and liquid nitrogen cooled, placing first in the table. As we always say, this is not representative of anything because it is not something that ordinary users are going to do on our home PCs, but it is still impressive that the record achieved is with a graphics card from the previous generation.
Does this make the RTX 3090 Ti the most powerful graphics card on the market? Well, it really was at the time, but if we talk about graphics cards individually, it is not because the RTX 4090 is quite above. Of course, as we have already mentioned, no matter how much the RTX 4090 is the most powerful graphics, we will not achieve the best possible performance because two RTX 3090 Ti in SLI offer even greater power, something that cannot be achieved with current generation graphics. because NVIDIA decided to do without SLI technology in them.
Of course, we must also take into account that the world record for graphic power (in these same terms) with an individual GPU does belong to the RTX 4090, and in fact it is only 13% lower to the one now obtained by CENS with two RTX 3090 Ti.
Ok but what good are these records?
Obviously, we have commented on it many times: for us, simply to get an idea of how far a certain component can go, or as a curious fact to know which is the most powerful graphics card in the world at any given time (at least in this case, because the record that concerns us is graphics cards). But, in terms of “real life”, it is not very useful for ordinary users since we do not have the means or, at least in most cases, the knowledge to do these levels of overclocking.
All in all, if you are one of those users who likes to squeeze every last drop of performance out of your PC, you can take the data obtained by professional overclockers as a reference to find out if a component may have a greater or lesser tendency to accept certain overclock levels. But, beyond that, we repeat that it is of little use to us except as a curious fact…
