James Gunn has just entrusted work on a new project for DC, linked to the universe of his Suicide Squad.
James Gunn performed a miracle at DC by giving a second life to Suicide Squad. After the complete failure of David Ayer, the director has managed to pay tribute to this team of broken arms, thanks to a feature film as funny as it is ambitious. Inevitably, the success of the film at the box office made babies; on HBO Max, one of the main characters had the right to a solo adventure in the form of a spin-off. Peacemaker has largely met its audience since the series is, according to its creator, one of the biggest hits in the world on the platform.
From now on, the screenwriter and director is working on a new project, still in the universe of the suicide squad. A new series for HBO Max, which should have a direct link with the plot of the film, he confided during an interview with Deadline. “We are working on something else, another TV program that is connected to the universe. I don’t know if it will be in the same genre as Peacemaker. It will be less of a comedy. That’s all I can say”.
Which character will get preferential treatment?
If James Gunn obviously does not seem ready to share other details, we can already imagine that it will be a question of exploring the destiny of another member of the team. Harley Quinn having already had the right to her solo feature film, she should logically not be the subject of a series. We can therefore imagine that the attention of the studios will turn to another important character: Bloodsport camped by Idris Elba.
A protagonist whose fate is still tinged with shadows, and who could find a place of choice in the connected universe of DC and Warner Bros. However, we will have to wait a little longer before we know more.
A season 2 for Peacemaker?
For now, HBO Max subscribers have been able to discover the first 5 episodes of Peacemaker. A delirious comedy which has every chance of being offered a sequel according to its showrunner. “We are the most popular series in the world right now. So there is a high chance of that happening.” Warner Bros will probably not want to do without this golden egg hen.
Remember, however, that the series is not yet available in France. If OCS has so far benefited from an exclusive contract with HBO, the arrival of the Warner Bros platform has changed the situation. From now on, certain original productions of the firm find takers outside the ranks of the Orange service, as for the spin-off of Sex and the City which is offered on Salto. There is currently no indication that the French platform plans to add Peacemaker to his offer.
If it is still very difficult to know where and when will land Peacemaker in France, you can console yourself with the Guardians of the Galaxy. The third installment of the adventures of Peter Quill and his gang is to be released on May 3, 2023 on our screens. A particularly anticipated last opus, especially since it has been delayed several times due to the temporary dismissal of James Gunn in July 2018.
