Jeff Bezos has a historic bridge demolished, his huge yacht was stuck in the port!

The town hall of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, has announced that a historic bridge in the city dating from 1878 will be temporarily dismantled to allow the passage of a ship that is too large. It is not just any boat, since it is the superyacht of Jeff Bezos, the former CEO of Amazon. Like what, everything is possible as we have the means.

Since we have as much money as Jeff Bezos, we can buy a lot of things. In 2018, the world’s second-richest had a little fun by ordering a $500 million superyacht, or 420 million euros. The Y721, that’s its name, stands out as the most sailboat in the world with 127 meters on the clock, with its three large decks and three masts.

Designed by the Dutch company Oceanco, the construction of the gigantic ship is nearing completion. Indeed, the Rotterdam shipyard teams are bringing the final finishing touches before delivering this “little boat” to the billionaire. Only, there is a small problem. Indeed, it turns out that the boat of the former boss of Amazon cannot reach the sea. Why? A historic city bridge dating from 1878 blocks the way.

Jeff Bezos gets dismantled

Never mind, under the impetus of Jeff Bezos, the shipbuilder asked the municipality to temporarily dismantle the central section of the bridge to let the last whim of the great Squid Game fan pass. According to our colleagues from Le Point, the costs of the operation will be fully covered by the CEO of Blue Origins and the naval company.

Y721 is currently anchored in Alblasserdam, a town not far from Rotterdam. By summer 2022, it will have to pass under the Koningshavenbrug bridge to reach the sea. Finally, it will have to carry out a few hammer blows first, as you have understood. This historic bridge, built in 1878, had been destroyed by the Germans in 1940 during the Second World War, before being completely renovated in 2017.

At that time, the Rotterdam City Hall had assured that no one would touch the structure again. Finally, the municipality quickly reconsidered its declaration, since it accepted the market proposed by the shipbuilder. If the case is already controversial in the Netherlands, the town hall of the city indicated “promote the economic importance and the jobs created by the construction of this ship”. Furthermore, thShe assures that the bridge will regain its original appearance after the works.
