If in the last few months we had gotten used to the idea that Warner Bros was working not too secretly on Joker 2, the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster, now Joaquin Phoenix’s words could shake more than a few fans.
Last year, rumors began to spread that Warner had offered the actor a contract to star in two Joker sequels. Then, not too long ago, there was also talk of the involvement of director Todd Phillips in the development of a sequel.
Good, Phoenix seems to know nothing about it and claims to not be aware of any plans for a potential Joker 2.
Isn’t Joker 2 in development? Joaquin Phoenix casts shadows on the film’s sequel
During a recent interview with The Playlist, Phoenix was asked about the possibility of seeing the sequel (never officially announced by Warner) and this was his answer:
“I mean, I don’t know. Ever since we were shooting, we started to – you know, uhh, this is an interesting guy. There are some things we could do with this guy and we could (explore) further. But about whether they really will? I do not know.”
The interview goes on to explain that Phoenix admitted that he didn’t know concrete details about the Joker sequel, with the interviewer going on to suggest that Phoenix was rather reluctant to take on this type of role. Phoenix seems to have simply smiled and sarcastically replied, “What kind of things? Interesting character, interesting movie? “
So what’s happening with the Joker sequel? Phillips admitted to discussing ideas with Phoenix and the studio but other than that, there doesn’t seem to be much else at the moment.
