Just for this novelty that is going to arrive, it is worth installing Windows 11

Windows 11 He is already over a year old. However, Microsoft’s new operating system is not booting as expected by Microsoft for several reasons. The first of them, the new minimum requirements that leave out almost half of the computers that are in operation today. And, on the other hand, the fact that it is an incomplete system, which is still launching the new features that Microsoft promised in its day. After the first major update of this system, version 2022, today we know that one of the most anticipated promised novelties will arrive very soon.

With the announcement of Windows 11, Microsoft confirmed that many of the Xbox-exclusive APIs were coming to PC gamers. Thanks to them it is possible to make much better use of the power of the computer to achieve a better frame rate per second and, above all, reduce loading and waiting times for games.

This long-awaited novelty is none other than DirectStorage. This API, exclusive to Xbox, was going to arrive exclusively as a novelty in Windows 11, although Microsoft finally decided to bring it to Windows 10 as well, although in a somewhat more limited way due to the limitations of the operating system. Windows 11 (and Windows 10 2021 Update) includes the DirectStorage 1.0 API, an early version of it that isn’t performing as well as it should.

Now, Microsoft has announced that, very soon, users will be able to start enjoying the new API Direct Storage 1.1. This version, which will come complete to Windows 11 and limited to Windows 10 again, and will focus on greatly improving the data decompression rate by delegating that task to the graphics card instead of the processor as before. In this way, it is possible to achieve much lower loading times than we have right now, also reducing the load on the CPU.

Direct Storage 1.1

What do we need to use DirectStorage 1.1

Although this novelty will reach both Windows 10 and Windows 11, Microsoft recommends using the latter since, in addition to being more modern, it has other specialized optimizations that allow DirectStorage to perform much more than in Windows 10.

Also, it is very important have an NVMe SSDsince these storage devices are much faster so that the graph can read all the data without bottlenecks.

Of course, we must also have the latest operating system update. In the case of Windows 10, for example, it is necessary to have the 2021 update, or higher, to be able to use this DirectStorage, while with Windows 11 it is necessary to have updated to the 2022 version of the operating system (although, In the absence of confirmation, it could also reach the first version).

In addition, having the computer ready does not guarantee us to be able to use this technology. In order to take advantage of it, you need to developers add DirectStorage API to games so that they can take advantage of this feature. Version 1.0 of this API has not been as successful as Microsoft hoped, and very few games actually take advantage of it. We will have to wait and see if with the new version 1.1 of this API, developers are more encouraged to implement it in games.
