Kingston IronKey Keypad 200C, total security on external storage

Kingston has presented the new external storage solution, IronKey Keypad 200C, a unit aimed at professionals and companies that need total security in portable data storage.

External storage units are a good solution for data management, for personal backup copies under the physical control of the client. The portable ones, most of them with USB interface, can be taken anywhere due to their pocket size and easily connected to almost any device in a port as widespread as USB.

But what about security? Security breaches are numerous in all areas and these small flash drives are a frequent means of introducing malware and losing confidential data if they are not handled correctly or are not as prepared as the solution that we are going to present to you.

Kinstong has coupled the ease of use of these small units with security. On the one hand, it has introduced a USB Type-C port, the most modern interface connector. But vastly reinforced. The IronKey Keypad 200C has the great advantage of being independent of operating systems and devices since it has a integrated rechargeable battery that allows you to unlock it without any type of software and connect it to any device with a USB port.

The Multi-PIN option adds a layer of flexibility for the user. There is the option of configuring a single user mode or a dual administrator/user mode. Manageability isn’t just ornamental; plays a crucial role in restoring user PINs, especially if they are forgotten or the drive locks out after ten failed login attempts.

Security is its forte and the unit includes all kinds of technologies to make it invulnerable. The cornerstone of the KP200C’s safety is its certification FIPS 140-3 Level 3 (pending certification) which is an enhancement to previous FIPS 140-2 specifications. Its encryption mechanism is 256-bit XTS-AESsolidly supplemented with protections against brute force attacks and BadUSB.

To ensure integrity, the firmware is digitally signed. Additionally, the drive’s circuitry is protected by a unique epoxy coating, making tampering virtually impossible by damaging components when attempting to remove them.

As for technical characteristics, the unit uses a USB 3.2 Gen1 interface to deliver data transfer speeds of up to 280 / 200 Mbytes per second in read/write modes. As for its physical dimensions, the unit measures 80mm x 20mm x 11mm with its protective case giving it an IP57 resistance rating against water and dust.

Kingston will sell this unit with a three-year warranty and in versions with storage capacities from 64 GB to 256 GBytes. Since it is independent of operating systems, it works with all the main ones, Windows, macOS, Linux or Android.
