Kyndryl and the Alcobendas City Council have announced a collaboration to accelerate the technological transformation of the City Council and improve the citizen experience. Thanks to this transformation, the inhabitants of Alcobendas will see an improvement in the capacities and availability of their municipal services, such as the use of sports centers and cultural centers, garbage collection or increased citizen security.
Local governments continually face new challenges when it comes to interacting closely with citizens and neighborhood associations through accessible, effective and secure channels, offering advanced services and rapid responses, both by officials who attend to the citizens and through digital systems that citizens access directly. To achieve this, they need a good plan to modernize their IT infrastructure that supports the applications that allow them to create a sustainable urban fabric with the collaboration and satisfaction of its inhabitants.
In Alcobendas, Kyndryl works to ensure that the Madrid municipality has modern IT capabilities that allow it to respond to the demands of a technologically advanced world. To do this, Kyndryl will migrate the city’s traditional technological architecture to a private cloud model that will provide infrastructure availability, agility and scalability, in a secure environment.
Additionally, Kyndryl will carry out a global upgrade that includes the software, the database and the middleware, with high availability on virtualized platforms. The pay-per-use model used for this service will help the council to increase the efficiency of its processes and reduce costs.
“Having the support of an IT provider with Kyndryl’s experience and ability to execute underpins the success of our digital transformation and allows us to step on the accelerator with confidence, based on the most advanced cloud services and technologies,” he says. Roberto Fraile, Councilor for Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Alcobendas City Council.
Improvements in security and the digital work environment
The project also has a cybersecurity component. Using its service layer and proven practices, Kyndryl will help City Council design its data continuity and disaster recovery strategy.
The initiative will also mean significant improvements in the digital workplace. Among them, Kyndryl’s Digital Workplace services will provide the City Council with a User Service Center (CAU), a virtual desktop solution based on Citrix technology for a multidisciplinary training room, and will virtualize applications at workstations. work, thus improving its availability and manageability. Thanks to a better employee experience, the city of Alcobendas will increase productivity and collaboration among its workers while carrying out critical tasks in the office or remotely, which will result in greater community engagement and greater satisfaction of the citizens of Alcobendas.
“We appreciate the trust that the City Council has placed in the ability of our teams and in our capacity for innovation and execution,” explains David Soto, president of Kyndryl Spain and Portugal. “We are undoubtedly facing a very ambitious and large-scale digital transformation project that requires the articulation of an adequate offer of cloud services and technologies and its support in highly qualified professionals.”
