laptop without screen based on augmented reality

A group of former Magic Leap employees have founded a startup that has given shape to the first laptop without a screen based on augmented reality. This equipment has been baptized as Spacetop, and it has a curious design, so much so that at first glance it could leave us a bit confused, although the truth is that deep down its operation is very simple.

Spacetop is a laptop without a traditional screen, but manages to create a huge virtual screen thanks to his augmented reality glasses which, as we can see in the attached video, are connected to the laptop. The device has a very thin and light design, adopts a traditional line and does not stand out in any way in this regard, beyond the fact that it does not have a screen, as we said. His weight is 1.4 kilograms.

Internally, the Spacetop is configured with a Snapdragon 865 SoCwhich means that it has an octa-core ARM CPU, and has an Adreno 650 GPU. It is a SoC that has already been widely surpassed by other more current ones, so we can fit it as an upper-middle-range chip today. today (it was released in 2020).

The Spacetop doesn’t stand out from the rest of its hardware either, since it comes equipped with 8 GB of RAM and has a 256 GB storage drive. The most interesting thing is, as we anticipated, its commitment to augmented reality. The included glasses can create a 100 inch screenand with it we can work by creating numerous tabs and opening different applications at the same time.

As for connectivity, this device has two USB Type-C and a DisplayPort 1.4 output, which will allow us to seamlessly connect it to an external monitor if we find it necessary. Wireless connectivity is quite complete, since it supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and 5G. Its autonomy is nothing special, since in theory it only reaches 5 hours under continuous use, although it can be charged very quickly (from 0% to 85% charge in two hours).

Its operating system is Spacetop OS, a custom solution that, in theory, supports quite a few applications, and is capable of moving some as important as Google Workspace, Slack and Microsoft 365, among other. The price of this equipment will be about $2,000a very high figure even considering the allure of augmented reality.
