Leaving a WhatsApp group is almost an offenseToday, it’s like a loud “I don’t want to be in your group”, so let’s see how to get out silently. It is very simple.
WhatsApp groups are made for almost everything. We have more groups than contacts (the one with friends, the one with parents, coworkers, the one with friends from school, the one with beer on Friday). Some of their own free will and others in which they include us without us wanting it.
The most used messaging app
WhatsApp, as much as it tries to give mobile messaging another twist every time, is the most widely used application in the world. There are 2 billion people who use it. That is more than a quarter of the planet and within the first world it is the application par excellence.
It is not the best, nor does it pretend to be due to the slow evolution that the application has had in its history. There are “functions and news” that have taken years to arrive when in other applications such as Telegram, iMessage, Line or Viber they were implemented almost from the beginning.
If not, it is simply the easiest to use and its learning curve makes it easy for young people, adults and quite old people, although with some buts, if not tell it to someone who has had to explain to an octogenarian how to activate the camera in a WhatsApp video call…
very slow evolution
We have had to wait until 2022 for it to be independent of our mobile. With that it says everything. So what behind WhatsApp issince October 2014, Goal (what Facebook was), that is, one of the first technological companies in the world.
However, Meta’s plans have never been very clear with respect to WhatsApp, since Facebook Messenger was also there, which, although with tremendous potential for users, did not take off, while WhatsApp grew exponentially.
Once Meta has understood that WhatsApp is irreplaceable today, it is when it began to reinforce its functionalities, with the creation of WhatsApp Business and with multiplatform applications independent of our mobile phone and that, we hope to see, in the not too long future. far away, running on our iPads (can you imagine that day?).
And although Meta plays with the sure trick that there will be WhatsApp for a while, it should not fall asleep because there are Telegram and iMessage trying to climb positions and making instant messaging more and more interesting.
Leave a WhatsApp group
But back to our topic, and with the recently landed new functions for Groups and the new invention of Communities (where you can encompass entire groups), leave a group by WhatsApp it becomes a little odyssey given that we never want to offend anyoneTRUE?.
It is not a trick, but a corrected feature that has been operational since WhatsApp version 2.22.21.77, which modifies the way in which a participant’s departure from a group is announced in the chat window.
From that version onwards, leaving a WhatsApp group is only notified to the group’s administrators, who are the ones who will see that “hateful message” of “So-and-so has left the group” that can hurt the sensitivity of a member of the group.
It is enough not to be one of the group administrators either, because in that case it is notified in the group chat.
So considering those two aspects, WhatsApp version and not be one of the administrators of the group, we can go unnoticed when we leave a group for whatever reason.
In this case, the administrator will see it in the group chat and the group’s participants will be able to see it, but within the group’s information. That is, by digging a bit, with the information on your departure from the group available for 60 days.
Look at the version of WhatsApp we have
In the unlikely event that WhatsApp has not been updated to a version higher than 2.22.21.77, we can look at the version installed on our iPhone as follows:
- We access WhatsApp.
- In the lower right corner, we touch “Settings”
- We scroll down and click on “Help”.
There we can see the version of WhatsApp installed on our phone. If we see that it is less than the indicated version, we will have to go to the App Store and update the application to the latest available version.
Steps to leave a WhatsApp group
- We access WhatsApp.
- We enter the group in question.
- We access the information of the group, touching on the name of the group in the upper center of the chat window.
- Once we are viewing the group report, we scroll to the bottom and click on the “Leave the group” option.
In this way we will have left the group in a “silent” way.
