LG Display presents OLED EX, new technology for its televisions

LG Display has announced the new OLED EX technology, a new advancement for OLED-based display panels that LG will integrate into its new televisions starting in the second quarter of 2022.

OLED panels are considered to be the best on the display screen market in terms of picture quality. As the name suggests, this technology based on light emitting diodes they do not require an external light source since each pixel can illuminate itself, achieving practically pure black colors, an enormous contrast ratio, extremely fast response times and great design possibilities since its thickness is minimal.

LG Display is a world leader in the production and sale of OLED screens and this week we saw its most advanced proposals in terms of transparent and flexible panels. Now, it has introduced an improvement for this type of panels that promises to improve the overall image quality of the screen and increase gloss level by up to 30 percent Compared to conventional OLED displays.

OLED EX, features

The name OLED EX is an acronym for ‘Evolution’ and ‘eXperience’, which stands for «the company’s goal of providing customers with new experiences through its ever-evolving OLED technology«Says the company.

EX technology applied to OLED displays combines compounds of deuterium and custom algorithms to improve the stability and efficiency of the organic light-emitting diode, thereby improving the overall performance of the screen. Thanks to this technology, OLED EX displays unlock «new levels of image precision and brightness to deliver exquisite, realistic color and detail without any distortion, such as the reflection of sunlight off a river or each individual vein of a tree leaf«, Assures the manufacturer.

LG Display which has figured out how to extract deuterium from water and apply it to organic light-emitting devices to make the screen emit brighter light while maintaining high efficiency for longer. Plus, thanks to LG Display’s ‘custom algorithm’ based on machine learning technology, OLED EX has more control over your own device.

The algorithm predicts the amount of use of up to 33 million 8K OLED display-based organic light-emitting diodes after learning individual display patterns, and precisely controls the screen’s power input to more accurately express the details and colors of the video content being played.

LG Display has also updated its designs using this technology, achieving reduce the thickness of the bezel from the original 6mm OLED to 4mm based on 65-inch diagonal displays. LG will integrate this technology into its new televisions starting in the second quarter of 2022, although we expect to see a preview at CES 2022.
