Like new! The secret Windows command Microsoft doesn’t want you to know

Surely we have all noticed that, with the passage of time, our computer begins to work more and more slowly. Even if we are careful with what we install and the configurations, and we have a very powerful and relatively new computer, we will always notice that something pulls on it and that it does not perform as well as it should. This can be due to many reasons, and it is almost always very difficult (if not impossible) to know exactly what causes it. Luckily, Windows hides a tool that helps us detect errors and problems and leave our PC like it just came out of the store.

Although we do not see errors all the time in Windows (only when something serious happens), the operating system constantly monitors the computer in search of any possible problem or error that can make things not work as they should. And, when it detects any anomalous behavior, it logs it in what is known as the “event viewer”.

But, in addition to this, it also has a tool, which we can launch manually whenever we want, which allows us to launch a computer scanner on demand so that it looks for any problem, registers it, and returns us suggestions to solve it and improve the general functioning of the computer. computer. This tool is called «Performance and resource monitor.

Analyze PC performance with a single command

What this tool allows us to do is generate a detailed report on the status of all the resources of our computer, as well as the response times and the processes that are executed. It will also record all kinds of system information and configuration data. In this way, the report includes suggestions to improve the overall performance of Windows and simplify the operation of the system.

The only thing we need to be able to use this tool is to have a user with administrator permissions. Otherwise, we won’t be able to launch it.

To perform an analysis of the PC, what we will do is press the Windows + R keyboard shortcut to open the typical PC execution window, and execute this command in it:

perfmon /report

We will automatically see a window like the following, with the tool in question.

Performance and resource monitor

Automatically, the performance and resource monitor will start collecting the data of the system operation for 60 seconds. While this is happening, we can continue using the PC, or leave it to sleep so that it can detect any abnormal behavior on it. After 60 seconds, we must restart the computer to finish the analysis (since it does not end automatically) and, when it turns on again, we will see the results.

Analyze performance results

During the analysis, Windows has generated a report and has saved it waiting for us to consult it. For this, we will have to open windows performance monitorlooking for it from the system’s own search engine.

Windows performance report

Within this panel we will find the performance analysis of the computer in the section System > System Diagnostics. There we will select the report that we are interested in analyzing, and we will be able to see its results. What will catch our attention from the first moment will be the errors and their description. In addition, each error will have a series of steps that we must follow to solve it.

Once the errors are corrected, we restart the PC again, make another report, and verify that there are no errors.
