Low code and no code are improving the situation for developers

Although it may not seem like it, the rise of low code and no code platforms and systems are facilitating and improving the situation of developers in companies. Despite the fact that both can be seen as the door for people who have little or no experience in development to create applications and tools, where they are having more acceptance seems to be in the sector of professional developers.

And it’s enhancing their work in two ways: by giving them the means to accelerate software development and deployment, and by making them teachers and facilitators of access to development for other inexperienced employees in their companies.

This is reflected in an OutSystems survey conducted among more than 850 developers. It points out that the majority of low code users, 59%, who also use conventional programming languages in parallel, say they are very satisfied with the productivity of their teams. In contrast, only 41% of those who do not use these platforms are satisfied with this aspect.

In addition, 57% are very satisfied with the tools they have at their disposal to work. Only 36% of those who do not use low code platforms are. In another order of things, the percentage of developers who can meet their hours without having to extend their working hours any more among their users is greater than that of those who do not use them: 71% compared to 44%. Satisfaction with the salary received is also higher among “low coders”: 63%, compared to 40% of traditional developers who are.

According to the authors of the survey, and the study based on it. «Low code and no code development solutions have been the subject of some debate and confusion in the software community. Our survey suggests that the debate around them may be overblown, as it is common for low code users to also use traditional coding languages. In fact, more than half of low code users, 65%, acknowledge that they use at least one traditional language, such as PHP, JavaScript, Python, HTML/CSS, and C/C++/C#«.

Gonçalo Gaiolas, Product Manager at OutSystemshas highlighted that «With a global talent shortage of around one million developers, IT leaders won’t be able to hire to meet all the challenges they face in response to the insatiable appetite for quality, high-performance software development. Instead, they need technologies that will optimize resources, ease workloads, and boost developer productivity. IT leaders who understand the benefits of different tools can support advanced development techniques, including specific developer code preferences, while reducing work hassle and difficulty«.
