MacBook Pro 2021: brute force in 14 and 16 inches

As we expected, and with the help of its new Apple M1 Pro and Apple M1 Max SoCs, tWe have also been able to see the new MacBook Pro 2021, and it is indisputable, once again, that Apple has put all the meat on the grill. This, of course, results in dizzying performance, with teams that, with total security, will be able to carry out the most demanding tasks with hardly any mess. The counterpart? Their price, which undoubtedly puts them out of reach of a significant part of users.

Just as we expected, 2021 MacBook Pro Arrives with 14- and 16-Inch Displays, thus completing the jump from the Pro range of its laptops to Apple Silicon. In other words, as of today it is no longer possible to find, in the Apple store, not a single MacBook (neither Air nor Pro) with an Intel chip. In addition, in this way it is already possible to acquire a MacBook Pro with each of the three Apple SoCs, M1, M1 Pro and M1 Max.

And the first thing we see in the 2021 MacBook Pro is, precisely, its Liquid Retina XDR display with adaptive frequency up to 120 hertz, built with Mini LED panel and resolutions of 3,024 x 1,964 dots in the 14.2-inch model, and 3,456 x 2,234 for the 16.2-inch model. Both share ProMotion, XDR support, up to 1,000 nits of sustained brightness with a peak that can reach 1,600 nits maximum, a 1,000,000: 1 contrast ratio, and the ability to render up to 1 billion colors.

However, the most striking thing about the MacBook Pro 2021 screen is that a rumor that we talked about yesterday has finally been confirmed, and that is that the bezel that surrounds it has been reduced to its minimum expression but, in return, now it sports a striking notch in the upper central part. A new 1080p F / 2.0 FaceTime HD camera is housed in this notch. At the moment no Face ID on MacBook, maybe next year … or maybe not. Accompanying the screen we find a sound system composed of six speakers and three microphones, capable of providing spatial audio, according to Apple.

Inside, the 14-inch MacBook Pro 2021 features a SoC Apple M1 Prowhile for the 16-inch model you can choose between the M1 Pro and the top of the range, the Apple M1 Max. In both models you can choose 16 or 32 gigabytes of unified memory (RAM and VRAM), while the 16-inch model equipped with the M1 Max also allows make the jump to 64 gigs memory. And if we talk about storage, the range is understood between the 512 gigabytes of the basic models, reaching up to eight terabytes, available on all models.

If we talk about connectivity, the MacBook Pro 2021 also brings a pleasant surprise, and that is that three Thunderbolt 4 ports (USB-C) adds an HDMI, something we haven’t seen in a MacBook Pro since 2015, if memory serves. We will also find a card reader, a minijack for headphones and microphone and, to the joy of many, a MagSafe 3 connector, and in wireless connectivity it has WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.

Something that, not expected, causes me less pain, is that MacBook Pro 2021 has marked the end of the Touch Bar, a very characteristic element of previous generations that, although I have always liked it personally, I have to admit that it has never gotten the approval of the general public. Instead we will find what this innovative touch screen aspired to replace, the classic and apparently irreplaceable function keys. The only thing that remains is the start button that was located to its right, and in which the Touch ID sensor is also located.

Regarding its autonomy, a key aspect given that we are talking about laptops, the MacBook Pro 2021 of 14 inch features a 70 watt hour battery, with a 67-watt charger and an optional 96-watt model. Regarding the 16-inch model, we go up to 100 watts / hour, with 140 watt charging adapter, for really fast charging.
