macOS 12.3 beta 2 seems to fix Bluetooth battery drain issue

When macOS 12.2 was released to all users last month, several users complained that the battery drained earlier than normal. It was especially noticeable when they were put on hold at night and it seems that the problem lay in their permanent use of Bluetooth. Now, the good news is that it seems that with macOS 12.3 beta 2, this bug has been fixed.

Some users were surprised when in the morning they wanted to use their computer to continue working and it was without battery despite having left it with it full and at rest. The problem seemed to be in the management of the use of Bluetooth by the computer. The problem was that the blue technology did not turn off at night when it should. That caused the computer’s battery to drain. But it seems that everything has been solved with the new beta released by Apple.

The latest beta version of macOS Monterey 12.3, which was released Tuesday for developers, no longer has this problem. Tests conducted by Mr. Macintosh show that MacBooks running macOS 12.3 beta 2 no longer suddenly wake up from sleep due to Bluetooth connectivity.

So at least it can be seen in the message sent via Twitter which even accompanies a video with the technical explanation why the problem may have been solved.

Until the version for everyone is released, users running macOS 12.2 have two alternatives To prevent battery drain:

  1. Turn off bluetooth before putting your Mac to sleep, which isn’t exactly convenient when you have a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
  2. install a tool to automatically turn off Bluetooth right after you close the lid of the Mac

We will have to wait for the version to be released for everyone, but in the meantime, I think the second solution is the right one and less cumbersome on a day-to-day basis.
