Marine renewable energies, protagonists of the Blue Deal Business Forum

The Blue Deal Business Forum recently held its second edition in Valencia, which was attended by more than 350 people related to renewable energies. This European forum, which aims to make visible, analyze the situation and the future of blue energythe marine clean energyas well as generating regional and transnational alliances to integrate them into current policies in this area.

During the three days of the congress, organized by CEEI Valencia, different experts from all over Europe discussed the potential of marine energies in the Mediterranean Sea, including the presentation of several success stories and good practices in the sector. Starting these days, the CEO of CEEI Valencia Ramón Ferrandis shared a few words with the attendees: “The CEEI is always at the forefront of innovation applied to business. That is why we support emerging sectors such as blue energy to mobilize, unite and generate synergies between the different actors of our Valencian Community and the CEEI collaborators.”.

On the first day of this event, the transfer protocol of Blue Deal, by the hand of Katerina Sfakianaki, head of CRES. “The Transnational Mediterranean Cluster connects the regions and key actors of the Blue Energy value chain, which is designed to materialize renewable energy of marine origin and which aims to involve stakeholders in a participatory role”Sfakianaki explained.

For his part, Simone Bastianoni, leader of the Blue Deal project and professor at the University of Siena, stated that “Blue energy is unique, so its development should not follow the same path as other renewable energy formats, because it has much more potential.” In addition, it has also been stated that “The current context shows us that we need to accelerate the development of energy independence with the use of renewable energies. If we want to take the energy transition seriously, we cannot leave out 70% of our planet, that is, the sea”.

Open Innovation Challenge: innovation reaches marine renewable energy

The second day of the European event featured the Blue Deal Open Innovation Challenge, an open innovation action organized together with companies and entities in which 12 challenges were launched to promote the use of marine renewable energies in the Mediterranean. Through this action, the 12 challengers shared their concerns and problems related to the use and development of this type of energy.
