Meta brought 3D avatars to a single look across all platforms

In that very case, if the Meta corporation is really going to help create the metaverse, then it will definitely need virtual characters that are the same in all its applications. And yes, now the tech giant has got it. And if you go into details, just yesterday Meta released updated 3D avatars on Facebook, Messenger and Instagram. The new design allows you to use the same avatar across all Meta platforms that allow it, including VR. That is, you can keep your appearance when switching to Quest 2 and back.

The avatars themselves promise to be more true to your style with more faces, skin tones and expressions. You can also add cochlear implants, wireless hearing aids, and even wheelchairs to your avatar if you see fit. Meta has decided not to miss out on clothing as you can now purchase official NFL apparel to show off your love of football ahead of the Super Bowl. And of course, you can still create different avatars for Facebook, Instagram, and VR so you have a more realistic look for VR meetings, as well as a more fantastic one for your social media profiles.

Just as importantly, Meta has also promised to “eventually” make it easier to move avatars between locations, and already allows you to sync avatar changes between Facebook and Instagram. The tech giant has generally acknowledged on an official level that unified avatars are an “early but crucial step” in the creation of the metaverse. Of course, such a move on the part of the company does not suddenly create a truly cohesive and immersive digital space. However, in any case, this is the beginning of a very long and difficult journey. At the very least, it provides consistency that, in the long run, may encourage you to try using your own avatar instead of sticking to your favorite photo.
