Metropolitan Uber already works in Madrid. This is a new last-mile service to facilitate access to public transport stations in the Community. The presentation took place during a press event with the participation of Aitor Retolaza, mayor of Alcobendas.
The service offers trips with a flat rate of 4.5 euros for any trip within a radius of three kilometers that has as its origin or destination the train stations and public transport centers of El Casar, Getafe Centro, Móstoles Central, Alcorcón, Majadahonda, Las Rozas and Alcobendas-Valdelasfuentes. The pilot project begins in these seven stations, to which more may be added in the coming months.
With this new service, Uber continues to bet on becoming a complement to the Madrid public transport, contributing to the development of mobility alternatives that allow users to move in a more efficient and sustainable way, reducing the use of private vehicles and traffic congestion in the city.
“With this launch we want to redouble our commitment to Madrid and facilitate the access of Madrid residents to public transport centers on the outskirts of the city without the need for them to use a private vehicle. The combination of Uber with public transport is key on the road to improving the quality of life in cities and contributes to making them more sustainable and clean”said Lola Villasdirector of Uber in Spain.
“It is a pleasure to receive projects from powerful companies like Uber in our municipality. Alcobendas is the city of more than 100,000 inhabitants with the best employment figures in Spain. And we are very close to being the second city in business turnover in Spain. This is, in part, thanks to the joint work of companies and the city council in public-private collaboration”, said Aitor Retolaza, mayor of Alcobendas.
Commitment to Madrid
Uber Metropolitano represents another step in the company’s commitment to Madrid, where last year it launched Uber Green – its 100% electric transport service, a pioneer in Spain – and where it already has one of the most complete service portfolios in Europe. : UberX, Taxi, Uber Comfort, Uber Black, Uber Van, Uber Pet, Lime electric bikes and scooters, Uber Green and Uber Metropolitan.
The launch is part of the company’s commitment to become a zero-emission mobility platform by 2040 worldwide. Said commitment, detailed in the SPARK! report, also pursues the objective that, by 2025, 50% of the kilometers traveled through its platform in the seven European capitals, including Madrid, are in vehicles zero emissions.
How does it work
To select Uber Metropolitano, users must be within a radius of three kilometers from the train stations of El Casar, Getafe Centro, Móstoles Central, Alcorcón, Majadahonda, Las Rozas or Alcobendas-Valdelasfuentes.
Once within that radius, the user will be able to see the option of Uber Metropolitano as an individual product in their application, such as UberX or Uber Green, with a flat rate of 4.5 euros. This rate will be the total cost of the trip, regardless of the distance traveled within those three kilometers, for trips originating or ending in the selected stations.
