MicroMacro: Crime City wins the Spiel des Jahres 2021

Drum roll, and … the prize winner Spiel des Jahres for the year 2021 is MicroMacro: Crime City! The board game of Johannes Sich, we have been in Italy for a few months now thanks to the publisher MS Editions.

Let’s take a closer look (and given the title in question it is appropriate to say so) at the winning title and at the others who, even if they did not take home the coveted prize, were considered worthy of mention by the jury.

MicroMacro: Crime City wins the Spiel des Jahres 2021

We had already guessed that MicroMacro: Crime City deserved attention during our game test, which you can see in the box below.

Johannes Sich’s title can be played by 1 to 4 players: it is an investigative game that takes place on a huge map in black and white, 110x 75 centimeters, in which a not-so-ordinary city is depicted. . On the streets of Crime City, in fact, we see numerous crimes taking place, even quite bloody. The map shows not only the city in a spatial but also a temporal sense. Events follow one another, illustrated in different areas and at different times, and our painstaking task is to reconstruct the history of one of the 16 cases available through careful observation.

MicroMacro got the better of the other two nominated titles: The adventures of Robin Hood is Zombie Teenz, respectively published by Kosmos is Scorpion Masqué.

The jury of the Spiel des Jahres however wanted to mention the games Biss 20, Chakra, Point Salad, Switch & Signal and The Key: Sabotage at Lucky Lama Land, considered among the best published in German in the last year.

Kudos to MicroMacro: Crime City, the author Johannes Sich, the illustrators Daniel Goll, Tobias Jochinke it’s the same Sich, and to the editors Edition Spielwiese, Pegasus Spiele and MS Edizioni!
