Nowadays several versions of Windows 10 coexistAdded, of course, to Windows 11, which is undoubtedly a good headache for Microsoft. There are more and more, as expected, users who are making the leap to the latest version of the Redmond operating system, but of course, that does not mean, least of all at this point, that we have to forget about those who for the Whatever reasons, they are still maintained in some of the versions of Windows 10.
As we told you then, Microsoft released Windows 10 21H2 update, also known as Sun Valley and as Windows 2110. Two months have passed since then, and it seems that the technology company has decided that it is time for certain users to upgrade to it, according to what the company itself has published. And what does this mean? Well, users with Windows 20H1 (Windows 2004) will start receiving the update to 21H2 automatically, through system updates.
Up until now, for those users, the upgrade was shown as optional, just like upgrading to Windows 11 today. And what prompted Microsoft to try to speed up the upgrade to Sun Valley in this way? Very simple: what Windows 10 20H2 is nearing the end of its lifecyclescheduled for May this year. After that, all devices still running this version of Windows 10 will no longer receive updates or security fixes.
Let us remember that, of all the versions of Windows 10 published by Microsoft to date, the only ones whose life cycle is still maintained are Windows 20H2 (May 10, 2022), Windows 21H1 (December 13, 2022) and Windows 21H2 (December 13, 2022). June 2023), since the life cycle of each version is around 18 months from its release to its end.
This also tells us that we can still expect big updates until at least early 2024, as Microsoft has already reported, and reconfirms, that support for Windows 10 will continue until October 14, 2025. In other words, we can expect the last major update of Windows 10 to arrive around April 2024. This, of course, if Microsoft does not finally extend the life cycle of Windows 10, something that seems likely, if we take into account the precedents.
Be that as it may, today Windows 21H2 is already a pretty polished update. I can personally say that I have been working with it on a daily basis for some time now and, so far, I have not had any of the problems that have been described in it. And knowing that I am in the cycle of updates, especially security updates, seems to me more than enough reason to have made this change, and that it came from Windows 21H1.
So I think It’s a good time to make the jump from Windows 20H2 to 21H2, and even more so for those who remain in 20H1 and earlier, in which the life cycle has already ended, and therefore they are exposed to already identified or future security problems, for which they will not receive security updates, except for exceptional cases.
