Microsoft bundles its data governance and compliance products into Purview

It was only a few months ago that Microsoft confirmed the availability of its data governance platform Azure Purviewbut they have already announced their rebrandin addition to add to it a range of Microsoft 365 governance and compliance productswhich have been included under the umbrella of the new name Microsoft Reviewwhich continues to uphold its goal of helping customers improve their privacy and data security.

From the company they place the Purview suite as a set of aids so that clients can review their assets for all the locations where they have their data. Also to help safeguard and manage sensitive data between clouds, apps and endpoints, and to facilitate risk management and compliance with rules and regulations.

In addition to this brand change, the company has also confirmed the availability of Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention for macOS. The company is also adding more than 50 new classifiers to its catalog of sensitive information types. They have also launched encrypted document co-authoring for Android and iOS mobile devices, while still in testing, as well as adding more features to Microsoft Purview eDiscovery Premium to improve the identification of relevant data in Teams.

Purview will have among its novelties the visibility of sensitivity labels both through the Microsoft Purview compliance portal, which until now was Microsoft 365 Compliance, and the Microsoft Purview governance portal, which until now was Azure Purview. With this new feature, administrators can apply sensitivity labels to data consistently, across the entire platform and across all data types.

Alym Rayani, Microsoft Privacy Marketing and Compliance Officerhas pointed out about the Purview platform that «Data governance regulations have a purpose, which is to help create a more ethical digital world. A strong solution is developed based on strong principles. It is designed to protect customer data, keep employee workstations secure, and protect the business. At Microsoft we don’t do these things because they’re asked, we do them because they’re the right thing to do«.

Rayani also notes that “The unification of Microsoft’s data governance and data compliance functions in Microsoft Purview reflects our belief that the world needs a simpler, more unified approach to data. We want to help you get the most out of your data while managing risk and compliance«.
