Microsoft has announced that it is extending its Microsoft Defender antivirus for Internet connected objects (IoT). The security system will in particular make it possible to protect everyday connected objects, such as printers and Smart TVs. But it is especially companies and organizations that will benefit the most from this extension.
Microsoft Defender for IoT is available today to give users the tools to secure all previously unmanaged IoT devices. The security software thus makes it possible to protect the entire IoT ecosystem, such as Smart TVs, printers and all other connected objects other than PCs and smartphones.
Microsoft Defender for IoT was previewed in late 2021. But it was also formerly known asAzure Defender for IoTthe latter being launched in public preview in 2020. Microsoft Defender expands and antivirus now protects entire IoT ecosystem
Concretely, if Microsoft Defender for IoT now makes it possible to protect our everyday objects other than our smartphones and our PCs, such as our printers or our Smart TVs, it is above all companies and large organizations that will benefit the most from the protection. New features in security software will, for example, enable organizations and businesses to gain the visibility and information they need to deal with complex attacks. Cyberattacks have indeed multiplied a lot lately, and some of them are specifically leveraging IoT devices to achieve their hacking goals.
With Microsoft Defender for IoT, security software customers will now be able to get the same types of vulnerability management, threat detection, responses, and other capabilities for enterprise IoT devices that were previously unavailable. With this new addition, “Microsoft Defender for IoT now delivers more than comprehensive security for all device types, apps, identities, and operating systems“, summarized Michal Braverman-Blumenstyk, who is the vice president of Microsoft and the firm’s director of security technology.
