On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the saga (and yes already!), Microsoft has just released a major update for Microsoft Flight Simulator. In the current reference of flight simulations, it is now possible to access the previous installments of the saga.
This November 11, 2022, you may not know it, but the cult license of the Flight Simulator video game celebrated its 40th anniversary! And yes, the very first opus was released in 1982 casually. For the occasion, Microsoft and Asobo Studio, the Bordeaux studio behind the excellent games A Plague Taledeployed a major update for the latest Microsoft Flight Simulator episode.
This update notably includes a new airliner, the Airbus A310-300, as well as seven additional historic aircraft, namely:
- the 1903 Wright Flyer
- the 1915 Curtiss JN-4 Jenny
- the 1927 Ryan NYP Spirit of St Louis
- the 1935 Douglas DC-3
- the sublime Grumman G-21 Goose from 1937
- the 1947 Havilland DHC-2 Beaver
- the famous 1947 Hughes H-4 Hercules “Spruce Goose”
In addition, and as announced during the summer of 2021, helicopters and gliders are now available among the many devices available to players. Here’s how to play the first Flight Simulator on the latest game
Indeed, Reddit user HuguesMDflyer4 discovered a brand new easter egg in the game. it is possible to play old episodes of the license from the cockpit of an airplane in Microsoft Flight Simulator. Of course, it will take some manipulations to take advantage of it. Here’s the procedure to follow :
- Start a game with the DA62 plane
- Settle in the cockpit and switch to subjective view
- Set the ELT control to On (distress beacon), located on the right side of the control panel
You will see an old interface appear, with the Microsoft logo. You can then choose to launch either Flight Simulator, Flight Simulator 2, Flight Simulator 3 or Flight Simulator 4 by moving your cursor. Note that these are indeed full versions of the games, in other words, all the options accessible at the time are available. This is a gift that will please nostalgics and veterans of the series.
