Microsoft improves WinRE recovery environment interface in Windows 11

Windows operating systems have a recovery environment WinRE aimed at repairing the common causes that prevent them from booting. By default, WinRE is loaded on desktop versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11 and also on server versions starting with Windows Server 2016.

This WinRE is based on the Windows PE environment (Windows Preinstallation Environment), the light version of Windows that Microsoft offers to help install, deploy, deploy, repair and maintain systems, supporting applications, drivers, network tools, partitions, managers, Hyper-V virtualizer and other free and open source tools that can be added.

If Windows PE is a very useful solution for maintenance and complete recovery from rescue disks, WinRE is a variant built into the system for automatic repair and other troubleshooting tools. It starts automatically after multiple failed attempts to start Windows, after unexpected shutdowns, or on Secure Boot system errors. It can also be accessed from General System Settings,

Microsoft has improved how recovery, repair, and system reset tools work in Windows 11, including this WinRE, but the user interface remains being the same as that of Windows 8 where it was renewed. It is not a tool that needs the updates of others like the ones we interact with most frequently, be it the taskbar or the start menu, but a visual update is always good.

Microsoft is on the way to renew all the sections of the system to achieve the necessary visual coherence and continues to implement its Fluent Design language both in the general interface and in the applications and also in these internal tools such as WinRE, starting with the new icons that you see in the picture.

Another of the visual changes has arrived for the shutdown options dialog that is reproduced when pressing the “Alt + F4” hotkeys from the desktop. It keeps the drop down menu with the familiar options to hibernate, shut down, restart or put your PC on standby.

Small changes, but necessary to achieve the intended visual coherence in Windows 11. The Windows 11 22H2 RTM is coming and we will see some of them there.
