Microsoft “limits” the number of images generated with Bing

Just a few days ago we told you about the latest (and one of the most interesting) news of the new Bing, the integration of a customized version of DALL-E that allows us to create images directly from the chatbot. With this function, thanks to the chatbot’s own conversational nature, it is much easier to create the appropriate prompts to obtain the images we want, as well as refine the result based on the conversation, either with Bing proposals or with changes that we observe and want to make.

This function, how could it be otherwise, has become a fashionable toy, as it provides free and easy access to one of the most popular image-generative intelligence models at the moment. Thus, we can imagine Microsoft’s servers fuming, something very positive for the company’s image, but difficult to sustain, in terms of costs, in the medium and long term. What’s more, it is one of those functions that, if it does not have limitations, can be a clear example of death by success.

Thus, and although the chatbot does not inform you about it (I will explain later how you can obtain important information about it), Bing does somewhat limit the maximum number of images that each user can generate. It is true, of course, that it is not an absolute limit, but it is a measure that, in practice, will surely make many users give up creating more images.

Microsoft "limits" the number of images generated with Bing

Bing Image Creator interface. To the right of the prompt introduction bar, at the top, you can see the number of boosts left in your account.

If you have already tried it, you will have seen that the speed of the image creation function is not bad at all, you will only have to wait a few seconds and you will get what you have asked for. However, this is only the case for the first 25 requests, thereafter Bing will substantially reduce the speed of image generation, which will go from seconds to minutes. With this reduced speed, there is no limit to the number of images that we can generate, but waiting for minutes can be tremendously dissuasive.

Each user account has, starting, 25 boosts, that is, 25 accelerators that will be used, automatically, in our first 25 requests for images to Bing. You will be able to check your accelerator balance in the specific interface of the Bing image creation service, which is the one that has now been integrated into the chatbot.

Thus, now you are surely wondering how you can get more accelerators. On the one hand, Microsoft claims that the balance of boosts from users it will be renewed weekly automaticallyand also that it will be possible to get more accelerators using the Microsoft rewards systemwhich gives you points for using Edge and Bing, so everything stays at home.
