Microsoft Teams Rooms will drop in price and add a free plan

Microsoft is going to lower the price of its Microsoft Teams Rooms service (Teams Rooms) to confirm that it is going to lower its price, in addition to adding a free basic plan to the service for small companies. Microsoft Rooms is designed for companies that have their own video conferencing collaboration hardware from manufacturers such as Lenovo, Logitech or Bose. Microsoft charges them to use the service, in addition to what it charges them for their Teams licenses.

Microsoft currently has two paid plans for Microsoft Teams Rooms: Premium and Standard. In Spain, the Standard plan has a price per user and month of 12.60 euros plus VAT, while the Premium costs 42.20 euros per month plus VAT for each user. The price they will have in the future in Spain is unknown for now. But according to The Register, those with a Premium plan in the United States have received a message informing them that their plan will be replaced by one called Pro for $40 per user per month. They are currently paying $50 a month.

The Pro plan, according to the message, offer «Enhanced in-room meeting experiences such as intelligent audio or video, multi-display support, multi-device management capabilities, and differentiated future value. It is the appropriate license for the area of large companies or for other smaller ones with many rooms or more advanced needs.«.

As for the Standard plan, it will be retired. Instead, Microsoft will launch the Rooms plan for Teams Basicwhich will offer according to the company «core meeting experiences to customers when they purchase a Teams Rooms certified device, at no additional cost«. So based on this, the Rooms Standard plan for Teams will go away and become free. Microsoft customers will be able to get up to 25 licenses of the basic plan.

On the other hand, Microsoft notes that, “device management has continued to grow in priority for our customers, and it is critical that we both accelerate our innovation in this area and expand the reach and value of our offering. That’s why the AI-powered platform value of managed services will be included as part of the Microsoft Rooms for Teams SKU, with access to the smart device management dashboard coming in the coming months.«.

The Pro and Basic plans will be presented from next September 6, but will be in operation and will be marketed from next September 1. Of course, it is unknown when they will come into force in Spain. Existing Standard and Premium Teams Rooms users will need to upgrade to the new plans. The company notes that when the software-as-a-service online device management service goes live, Microsoft’s staff “will no longer broker incident management workflows from October 1, 2022«.

Microsoft has confirmed that there will be free trials for a time of Rooms for Teams Pro. They will last 30 days, which will be 60 for customers of government, educational and charitable institutions.
