More and more companies see ARM processors as interesting for their products. It’s not just Apple, Amazon for their AWS servers, and Google, they already have ARM-based systems. Something that should worry Intel, but in a great move, it seems that the company will in the future manufacture the chips that, so far, ARM only licenses.
Specific processors for Windows 12
We know Microsoft’s intentions to several recently published job offers. They seem to want to create ARM processors specific to Windows 12. This would be twofold: developing solutions for your operating system and optimize iton the other hand, to run on any system with ARM architecture chips.
We have to know, before continuing, that there are big differences between ARM processors and Intel and AMD. The most prominent is that ARM is based on RISC, a reduced instruction set. Intel and AMD are based on CISC, which is a more complex instruction system.
Microsoft would be looking for Principal Systems Architect at Chip Silicon, Principal Design Engineer, Principal Physical Design Verification Engineer, and Principal Integrity CAD Manager at Silicon Power. They want to create their own processors and we suppose that improving the windows 12 compatibility.
Within the offers you can read that these workers will be at the “forefront of computing.” It is also indicated that they will work “with various multifunctional groups to offer an innovative and high-performance silicon SoC.” Apparently, they would be interested in competing against Apple.
We imagine that behind this is the development of new Surface systems, mostly. These devices have not yet taken off and the company would like to promote them. They currently use Intel processors, but would like to ditch those in favor of their own chips.
One of the aspects that they would be working on for these chips would be to implement AI hardware. Note that Windows 12 will be an operating system very focused on this technology, where it will have a lot of weight. And it is that Microsoft is one of the main OpenAI shareholders.
What do we know about Windows 12 to date?
There is little information at the moment that we know about the company’s new software. Rumors point to a release next year, something that would mean that Windows 11 has been one of the company’s shortest operating systems.
At the moment, Windows 10 is already seen for sentencing. The company has already said that they will only add minor improvements, optimizations, and security patches. The bulk of the development to be centered on Windows 11 and its next operating system.
With what we are seeing, W11 would be very similar to Windows 8, a bridge operating system. But all this is speculation, since we don’t have many reliable data. The company tries not to leak anything or the minimum.
