Microsoft is in the process of making the biggest transaction in the history of the video game industry by acquiring Activision Blizzard for $69 billion. If the sale should materialize, there are still chances of even failing it under pressure from regulators.

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, spoke during an interview with American media CNBC. For him, Microsoft will continue its path in the world of video games, even if redemption does not take place. Microsoft is a major player in the industry today and nothing could change that just yet.

Satya Nadella wants to be reassuring about Microsoft’s long-term goals

Nadella’s goal is clear for the video game, allow as many people as possible to enjoy it, no matter the platform.

“Our goal is to give as many options as possible to players to play wherever they want and to developers to have more flexibility. Microsoft is a conglomerate, I want to be clear on that. We’re not doing productivity there and gaming here. »

When asked if Microsoft will continue on the video game path even if the Activision-Blizzard takeover fails, Nadella did not hesitate :

“We have been making video games for decades and we will continue”.

The message is therefore clear: Microsoft remains and will remain at the forefront. The Activision Blizzard takeover raised many questions and worried some regulators. It must be said that the publisher is the first on the market and the competition, especially Sony, does not see favorably the grip of Microsoft on strong licenses which sell PlayStations, like Call of Duty. .

As a reminder, the takeover of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft was announced at the beginning of 2022 and should materialize during 2023 if all goes as planned.
