MINISFORUM UM580, a multipurpose compact with Ryzen 7 5800H

MINISFORUM UM580 is the latest model presented by one of the companies that has the most offer in compact computers. Included under the ‘Venus’ series and as an improved version of the UM560, it stands out for the processor AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and the Radeon graphics it includes.

Typical tower desktops continue to decline in sales against the rise of laptops and convertibles. And so there is very little news. However, there is another segment of the market that is also included in desktop machines that sell very well and for which there is no lack of news week after week. You can see a sample in our mini-PCs category.

MINISFORUM UM580: all terrain

The manufacturer says it is a multipurpose mini-computer designed for use in a variety of solutions, such as gaming, home office, media center/HTPC, printer management, digital signage, or mass-deployed enterprise IT solutions.

MINISFORUM UM580

The chassis of the MINISFORUM UM580 is very similar to others from the same manufacturer, with dimensions of 12.8 x 12.66 x 4.65cm. It can include up to 64 Gbytes of RAM, dual-channel DDR4. For storage, it features a PCIe slot for mounting an M.2 2280 SSD and a SATA bay for mounting 2.5-inch hard drives or SSDs for expansion.

Your engine is a AMD Ryzen 7 5800H which you will know because it has been used a lot in gaming laptops. It has 8 cores and 16 native processing threads with a base frequency of 3.2 GHz that can be increased up to 4.4 GHz. It has 16 Mbytes of L3 cache and a TDP of 35W.

This new APU with Radeon graphics from the ‘Cezanne’ series represented a significant leap in performance compared to the previous model (more than 18% in single core and multithreading) in addition to having a more modern Zen3 architecture and better manufacturing process. It is a Mobile model, yes, but it should work very well on this mini-PC.

In terms of connectivity, we can cite the following:

  • Ethernet LAN 2.5
  • 4 USB Type A ports (2 USB 3.2 Gen2 + 2 USB 2.0)
  • 1 USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C
  • 1 USB 3.2 TC with support for Display Port (Alt Mode)
  • 1 USB 3.2 Gen2 Type C on the front
  • 2 HDMI video outputs (4k@60Hz)
  • 3.5mm audio jack

As you can see, four monitors with resolution up to 4K can be connected at the same time, using the 2 HDMI ports and the 2 USB-C ports with Display Port support.
