Moto X40, impressive debut of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Lenovo, with Motorola, seems to be playing in a different league than most manufacturers for a long time, and this Moto X40, which at the moment is only available in China but which we hope will jump to other geographies (although it will probably do so with another name). is a perfect example of it. And it is enough to give a quick review of its technical specifications and its price to wonder why we do not see more terminals of the brand on the street. And yes, it is true that in Europe they are not usually as cheap as in China, but even so, it is common to find very interesting offers with them.

But hey, let’s stop talking about the market situation to focus on this Moto X40, which marks Motorola’s debut with the most advanced SoC to date from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, an integrated one presented a month ago now, with an eight-core CPU (one Cortex-X3 at 3.2 GHz, two Cortex-A715 at 2.8 GHz, two Cortex-A710 at 2.8 GHz and three cores for tasks efficient with frequencies of 2 GHz) and an Adreno GPU that improves the performance of its predecessor by 25%, while optimizing consumption. The SoC can be accompanied by 8 or 12 gigabytes of RAM and 128, 256 or 512 gigabytes of storage (8/128, 12/256 and 12/512).

As for its visible face, this Moto X40 mounts a panel 6.7-inch OLED with FullHD + resolution (with a very panoramic 2,400 x 1,080 pixels in a 1:2.22 aspect ratio) and another of the details for which it stands out, a variable refresh rate that can reach up to 165 hertza very difficult speed to find even among the top of the range of the first brands.

As for its autonomy, the Moto X40 mounts a battery of 4,600 milliamps, a little below the 5,000 mAh to which the brand has accustomed us. But, in compensation, supports fast charging up to 125 wattsensuring truly fast uploads.

And if you are wondering about its photographic section, its main camera is made up of three elements, a se50 megapixel main sensor, along with a 50MP secondary camera and a 12MP tertiary sensor. As for the front camera, which is located in a hole in the upper center of the screen, it mounts a 60-megapixel sensor. In addition to all this, we are talking about a very resistant phone, since this Moto X40 has IP68 certification. And yes, in case you were wondering, it includes Android 13.

Who much does it cost? Well, this is what has left me most surprised, since it is indisputably very cheap, for its benefits, these are the prices in yuan (China) and its equivalence to euros at the current exchange rate:

  • Moto X40 8/128GB: 3,399 yuan – 458 euros.
  • Moto X40 12/256GB: 3,999 yuan – 539 euros.
  • Moto X40 8/512GB: 4,299 yuan – 579 euros.

We can assume that upon its arrival in Europe, if it occurs, its prices will experience a rise, but if Lenovo manages to contain it, we may be talking about one of the most competitive high-end smartphones of 2023.
