Neoverse V2: ARM’s New Design for the Data Center and Cloud

It is not the first time that we have said that ARM’s ambitions are increasingly found in the data center, a space in which, together with manufacturers such as Nvidia, it is convinced that it can fight (and win) corporations. classics like Intel or AMD.

In this race, the British consortium has just presented the plans for its new Neoverse V2, a new processor that is designed to respond to the amount of data generated by technologies such as 5G, the edge computing and IoT devices.

One of the companies that has already announced that it will adopt this new platform is NVIDIA, since its supercomputing and artificial intelligence-oriented Grace processors will be based on this platform.

According to ARM, its new design allows manufacturers to offer twice the performance per watt of solutions based on X86 architectures. Other outstanding features that they have is their support for DDR5, PCI Express 5.0 and CXL 2.0.

In addition to NVIDIA, companies like Ampere, Amazon, Fujitsu, and Alibaba routinely use ARM designs to improve their position in the data center. In fact, until not too long ago, Fugaku, a supercomputer developed by Fujitsu and based on the ARM architecture, clearly dominated the ranking of the most powerful computers in the world.
