What seemed like a gesture of good vibes and colleague by Netflix in its beginnings in Spain, back in 2015, at the end has become a problem for the platform (according to them) since they believe that they could currently have a much larger subscriber base than they already enjoy, which is not small. So that advice to “share your account” is over, especially if you pay half with other friends or family.

This movement by Netflix should not surprise us because over the last two years we have received small alerts from the company, which has been warning that that of sharing account and expenses with friends or family was going to end at some point, and it seems that moment is coming in 2022, with a first pilot program that the North Americans will launch in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru.
And what they have devised from the platform is nothing more than putting a block to all those users who watch Netflix in a house that is not the one considered as official of the subscription holder, in such a way that everything that is left out will be blocked and you will not be able to view anything. This measure seeks that those IPs that do not belong to a specific location of an address registered in the account, are considered as external and therefore are not capable of reproducing any content.
Another element that will help Netflix to know if an account is being used in another house are the profiles. Surely, from the platform they have data in hand that indicates that it is recurrent that certain users who do not live at the owner’s address they are always accessing the same application profileso that way they can verify that the account is being shared in an undisguised way.
What options do we have left?
Although this blockade will only occur in Chile, Peru and Costa Rica, for now we cannot help but think that if it works for them, we will soon have it in Spain, so we must start preparing. And the alternatives that the Americans are going to offer us are, obviously, to separate these users into as many accounts as are needed so that each one pays their own, not completely, but yes. through a somewhat smaller amount.
Basically when Netflix detects that the account is being shared, it will invite those who do not live under the same roof as the owners to:
- Add an additional member to the profiles that we already have in our rate. Specifically, a maximum of two, which will have a cost each and that can be used by people who do not live under our same roof. Each of these profiles will cost approximately three euros.
- Transfer a profile to a new paid accountin such a way that the new subscriber does not lose the history of everything he has seen of series, movies or documentaries within Netflix but, yes, he is responsible for paying one of the available rates every month.
as we say, this test will be extended over the next few weeks and in case it works, do not doubt that we will have it here sooner rather than later.
