Netflix is recruiting a 5-star cast for its next horror movie

Netflix will produce a horror thriller, inspired by a true story and with Octavia Spencer and Glen Close in the cast.

Tired of Netflix teen productions? Good news, the platform is investing more and more in genre cinema. A few days after the launch ofArchives 81 and as she prepares to unveil her remake of Chainsaw Massacre, in February, the SVOD offer is currently developing a new horror thriller based on a true story. A story of exorcism that hit the headlines in the United States in 2014.

Latoya Ammons and her three children experienced strange incidents at their Indiana home. According to the mother of the family, the children gradually became violent towards each other, speaking with grunts and an abnormally deep voice. She claims to have witnessed paranormal phenomena on several occasions. Quickly, the situation interests the local authorities, who write reports on this supernatural situation. Police officers and doctors said they saw the 9-year-old son walking backwards on a wall.

This incredible case has caught the attention of Netflix, which will therefore adapt it for its platform. According to Deadline, the firm was working on a feature film directed by Lee Daniels. The filmmaker, to whom we owe in particular The Butler with Forest Whitaker, would have recruited several famous Hollywood figures for the occasion. Thus, Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures) and Glenn Close (Dangerous relationships) would be in discussion to join the project.

The two actresses should give the reply to Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things) and Andra Day. This is not the first time that the filmmaker has called on the actress since she was already starring in his last film: Billie Holiday, an affair of state. Here, she should camp the mother of the family. Caleb McLaughlin will play one of the children. (Zolpidem)

A colossal budget

Proof, if one were needed, that Netflix takes this new project very seriously, the platform would have spent no less than 65 million dollars for development. Lee Daniels, Tuckey Tooley and Pam Williams will produce. Filming should, again according to Deadline, to be launched this year. We can therefore hope to discover it on our screens at the earliest in 2023.

As a reminder, this is far from the first time that a film of its kind has been inspired by a paranormal affair. Of course we remember Conjuring who followed the Warren couple, two specialists in American occult sciences. It’s the same for The Exorcist, which was based on a true story that happened in 1949.
