Netflix will monetize shared accounts from 2023

There is no doubt that Netflix is making major changes to its business model. The economic plan with advertising has been one of the most important developments in this regard, but it has not been the only one, and that is that the streaming giant is also preparing to implement, globally, paying an additional fee so we know as shared accounts.

I put you in situation, until now when we subscribe to Netflix we have the possibility of share our account with a certain number of devices, and it does not matter if these are in our home or outside of it. In my case, I share my account with my parents and my in-laws, since that way I can make the most of the subscription to the 4K plan.

Unfortunately this is going to change. We already told you about it at the time in this article, and today we know that it is very likely that Netflix will generalize the charge for sharing an account from 2023. From that date, the payment of a $2.99 additional fee by sharing account with all those devices that connect from outside the main home. To facilitate the transition to this model, the company has launched a tool that will allow you to migrate profiles when creating a new Netflix account.

In principle, it seems that this additional fee will only affect those who share an account to watch Netflix on a television, so in theory those who connect from a smartphone or a PC will not have to pay it, at least for nowsince this could end up changing in the short or medium term.

We will have to see how this movement affects the share of Netflix users, and above all if that additional fee ends up being enough to compensate for the loss of users that this platform will end up suffering, irremediably, when it begins to charge for sharing an account. In my case, I will end up keeping the subscription because, as I said, in the end it is profitable for me to share it with my loved ones, but I understand that there will be many people for whom the numbers will no longer add up.

I remind you that by paying that additional fee of $2.99 we may share the account with up to two additional households, and with a limitation of two devices. This means that if we want to share an account with four households, we would have to pay two installments of $2.99 plus the main subscription fee.
